Session 8 Log: Sunday Aug 27, 2017

(Sorry for being woefully late on this. Hillers wrote up a nice summary here: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/5469214/session-8-notes-august-27-2017 ) Flashback: Rolen Years ago Rolen found himself guarding the sacred spirit mound inside Beorunna's Well alongside a mute druid who may have belonged to the Emerald Enclave. One night Rolen returns to the Well only to find it under assault by two Fire Giants who seek (and have found) something called a fragment of Vonindod. The giants are engaged by the mute druid who protects the Well and Rolen comes to his aid. Just when it looks like Rolen will be smushed by a massive fire giant club, he transforms into an enormous green dragon and breathes a massive poison cloud killing one of the fire giants, the mute druid, and ruins the sacred spirit mound that he had sworn to protect. Flying off into the night he eventually transforms back into his human form, not knowing how he turned into a dragon in the first place or how to do so again - but he does know that he has broken his vow to protect Beorunna's Well and can never return. Later he meets a half-orc known as Garad and eventually accompanies him on a job leaving Neverwinter to protect some cargo en route to a small town named Phandalin. As a result of his experience, Rolen gains the following boons/banes: Noxious Defiler (Rolen only) Speak Draconic Immune to Poison Disadvantage against saving throws (including Death Saves) while on sacred ground. Recap Whilst burning the bodies of the Redbrands, including what was left of Glasstaff (also known as Lord Iarno Albrek), the townfolk gather around in the town square and cheer on their new heroes, Granny & Steve. Sildar Hallwinter approaches, quite impressed that they've tackled the Redbrand menace, and reminds them to stop by the Townmaster's Hall later for their reward. As Granny & Steve leave to join their companions back at the Stonehill Inn they can hear the jubilation of the town continue late into the night. Awakening in the morning Steve heads out early to do some shopping ( see here ) and the crew eventually makes their way to Sister Garaele at the Shrine of Luck in the hopes that she can help them identify a sword they liberated from the crevasse underneath Tresendar Manor. While she is unable to identify it herself, she does hand over a tome detailing the history of the Tresendar family, a Scroll of Identify, and mentions that during the prior evening festivities the townfolk started to take to calling the party The Flames of Tresendar . After a brief discussion weighing whether they should head to Thundertree or Cragmaw Castle, the party decides upon the Castle in the hopes of rescuing Gundren Rockseeker (their dwarven employer that originated their departure from Neverwinter) before it is too late and within a couple of days arrives without incident. Steve summons the infernal imp he calls Handsy while Zigmundo (aka Doom Spark) inscribes the Scroll of Identify into his spellbook and identifies the mysterious sword as Talon, a +1 longsword. A ruinous attempt at stealthing into the castle results in a veritable horde of goblins descending upon the party, but they quickly dispatch the goblins with little risk to themselves. Only a single survivor, who appears to be one of the goblins' bosses, remains, currently tied up lying upon the rubble of a ceiling cave-in that Steve previously triggered.
MVP DoomSpark for his sniping.
+1 for MVP
