Looking for Players, Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, Sunday, October 15, 2017, 3:00PM, EST 18+ Mature Content Hey guys! I'm working on spinning up a new campaign, and I'm looking for some strong players for it. # Liberty - Age of Sorrows, Book I ## Introduction _A quiet pall falls over the boarding-house. There is fear in the eyes of adults. The war which we have all feared has begun, and it is only a matter of time before... Children, put off by the fright of their fathers and mothers, find themselves in the care of an aged man from the south, across the narrow sea. He whispers a prayer to his foreign deity before smiling and offering to tell a tale.... a tale that will both explain why their parents are afraid, and why they should not be..._ ## Setting This game takes place in the continent of Eldra, a homebrew setting of mine that I've lovingly crafted over more than a decade. Eldra resembles a fantasy version of Europe and North Africa in the late 18th century, but with slightly different history: A kinder history, where Colonization of the new world was a far less bloody, and as such, less complete, affair. A darker history, where cataclysms in the east have led to the rise of frightening dictators that threaten freedom across the continent. Players will be heroes in the Kingdom of Kithad (Not-France) on the brink of a great war between the democratic powers of the West and the Empire of Man(not Austria-Hungary) to the east. Trouble has led the elected President to recover in her mountain palace from a strange disease, and left the sole executive of the country as the Elected holy mother of the church of the four divines, Ser Claudia Iverness. With questions about the church's doctrines, such power held solely by the church causes unrest in the populace and the parliament alike. ## Rules Changes I will be using some changes in the dmg, as well as a few custom classes and subclasses. Below is a list. Overall Changes: 1. Healer's Kit Use dependency for spending hit dice: You must expend a use of a healer's kit for each hit die spent. A skilled churgeon (player trained in heal) may make a heal check and add their skill bonus to hit points recovered if they pass a dc of 15 while attending wounds. 2. Slow Natural Healing: All rest healing is done through use of hit dice. There is no magical heal-to-full following a long rest. Long rests restore hit dice spent and any mechanics which long rests restore (wizard spells, etc) 3. Renaissance Firearms and Bombs: Due to the time period, I am allowing use of Renaissance explosives and firearms from the dmg. These will be included in a custom equipment handout in the game. 4. Refluffed armor: Armor in the player's handbook will function as normal, but will be renamed and refluffed to fit the era. For example. "Leather Armor" will provide the same AC bonus and weight, but will be refluffed to a padded wool doublet, where "Studded Leather Armor" will be a leather greatcoat, and heavy armors will be more designed after dragoon and conquistador armor than high middle ages ones. 5. Expanded equipment list: Touched on before, I will be adding a few items relevant to the time period (Colichemarde, Cannons, Main Gauche, Tomahawk, Show Shoes, Compass, Sextant, Surveyor's Tools, Clocksmith's Tools,Flute, Carrack, Man 'o War, etc) to the standard equipment list. Items with statistics have been painstakingly playtested and designed to be balanced with existing 5e equipment 6. A number of inspiration points may be banked equal to your proficiency bonus. Further, Inspiratoin can be spent in a new way: What a twist!: A player can spend an inspiration point to make a minor, but plausable decree about the enviornment. For example: there is some easilly sppoked livestock in the city street that can be used to cover your escape, there's a chandelier in the room (of course there is!) for me to swing on, etc. Only one inspiration point may be spent per scene.(roughly equivilent to a combat.) GM reserves the rights to say no to certain twists, but must come up with an alternative twist the player accepts. This fiat will only be invoked if such a twist would ruin a plot point. 7. Inclusion of optional DMG actions "Climb onto a Bigger Creature", "Disarm", "Mark," "Overrun," "Shove Aside," and "Tumble." 8. Lingering Injuries from DMG triggered by being reduced to 0 hp or taking a critical strike. 9. Flanking, Feats, Alternate Humans 10. Alternate Races, to be detailed in forum posts below. 11. Custom backgrounds. All made with DMG and PHB formulae for game balance. Class Changes: 1. Ranger from player's handbook has been replaced with the UA [revised ranger]( https://media.wizards.com/2016/dnd/downloads/UA_RevisedRanger.pdf ), full stop.UA ranger subclasses may be juggled to fit with revised class. (Original ranger was tragically flawed). 2. Inclusion of most [UA subclasses]( http://dnd.wizards.com/articles-tags/unearthed-arcana ) 3. Monk class has an alternate refluffto "Brave", inspired by muskogeean (Iroquis, Cherokee, Powawatan, Creek) native american spirit-warriors. No major rules changes, just some name changes and list expansions. (Ki is Spirit, Weapon list includes tomahawk, etc) If you wish to play a traditoinal eastern martial artist, this can be done with no refluffing, of course. (But that character would have limited contact with the West... you'd need a good backstory...) 4. New Class: Mystic, based off of a DM's guild expanded mystic (no viewable link, not OGL. basically, the UA entry for psionics expanded for full play. Very well done.). Thoroughly playtested and balanced. 5. New Class: Captain, based off of DM's guild Warlord (Non-OGL, cannot provide link. Basically, a healer who's not using magic... more of a natural leader who pushes allies past their limits.). Thoroughly playtested and balanced. 6. New Class: Artificer, based off of DM's guild Artificer of Alancia (Non-OGL. A non spellcasting spellcaster, uses invention and technology to accomplish magic effects. very fun class.). Again, thorough balancing has been done by the submitter, and playtesting by me and submitter. 7. Warden subclass for barbarian, sort of like a fighter's eldritch knight for barbarians with limited druid spells. 8. Investigator subclass for Rogue. - a clever, if flawed sleuth. 9. College of Masks subclass for Bard. - a spymaster and infiltrator 10. Circle of the Sacred Fire subclass for Druid, based off of [Circle of Being]( https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/3av9ij/retweaked_and_rebranded_5e_druid_homebrew_circle/ ) 11. Note: all subclasses and changes have been playtested and are robust. Some links lack a few changes i'm going to implement (for example, a few buffs to the circle of being to bring it in line) ## What you can expect from me I am an entertainer by nature, and a wizard with Roll20. I use great 16 bit style graphics, api scripts, and a lot of clever immersion tactics. This game will be professional, deep, and incredibly fun. I tend to lean towards grittyness. Players characters will be maimed horribly, Player characters may die. Awful things DEFINITELY WILL happen to that NPC you love. If the narrative is so intensley sad it makes you choke up, I've done my job. If your knuckles go white when I call for imitative, I've done my job. If you feel a sense of great relief when the big bad, after a painfully long struggle, finally utters their last words, I've definitely done my job. Game sessions will typically run 4-6 hours. Game time extensions can take place if everyone's in the mood for it and I'm adequately prepared, but only with a 100% consensus to continue. ## What I expect of you I'm looking for the best. I'm looking for players who will let the narrative swallow them up, will show up on time, and will enthusiastically play the character they are building. I want players who will find the moment of the adventure the most important element, not if being scarred will ruin their character. I want the type of player who will gleefully make a new character when their favorite PC leaps heroically into a fiery pit to save his allies. I realize life happens, and sometimes one can't make it. I expect to be told as early as possible when you find out. If there is a trend of a player routinely not telling me until a few hours before game time, I will replace that player until their schedule improves. I expect players to be flexible - willing to control an absent player's pc if necissary. Games will be called if fewer than 3 players can make it. I hate calling scheduled games, please don't make me do that. (unless its Christmas or thanksgiving or something of course! :D) ## About "Mature content." This game has some dark things happening. Terrible things happen to good people in the best stories, and it is the light in a pit of darkness which shines brightest. This said, there won't be gratuitous gore, and "adult" related content will fade to black. I mainly ticked mature content to find people who will enjoy struggling with complex morality questions, and dealing with the emotions brought on by nightmarish events. ## Hard and fast rules. You get one warning. This is it. Absolutely no harassment OOC. None. I will kick you immediately. Your character will die via implosion. Don't try me. You need a working microphone. I get that tech breaks, and i can be cool, but don't fill out an application and say you don't have one. Keep politics and religion to a bare minimum. I will tell you when you're crossing a line. I expect you to stop there. No use of racially or sexually charged slurs. Absolutely no exceptions. Do not test me. Respect people's identity and pronouns within reason. He/She/They. It's their choice. On the flip side, if you have an identity largely outside of common speech, be understanding if someone feels uncomfortable calling you "Zhir" and reverts to "they" instead. Keep language at a PG-13 level. I'm a little more forgiving on this one, and will take you to the side if it's becoming a problem. If I am addressing you in private about a behavioral issue, I expect you to show some improvement. When you enter the game, make sure your tag is something that does not personally identify you. Likewise, refer to people without their first (and definitely not) last names. I will record sessions, and while its unlikely outsiders will watch them, we want to be respectful of people's privacy. I'm a real stickler about this in any game i'm recording. ## Game sessions will be recorded for players to view in the future. Take necessary precautions. (do not give out identifying names unless you're comfortable with strangers knowing that's your name!) ## I will be using a pixel art token base to build tokens with. Ideally, I'd also like to use pixel art portraits for players, but I'm not so much a stickler on this. Once accepted, I will schedule a time to screen share with you so we can make your token look how you want. ## there will be an interview process for promising applications. If you want a good shot, make sure to read the sticky lore I have posted below, and fill out the applicatoin fully! ## applications close Thursday, October 12.
