Posts getting deleted

Since there seems no wanted way to get into contact with mods privately I post my question here. I recently answered to a post in a thread but that post is now gone. I was under the impression that posts wont get deleted completely. What happened? If the poster deleted his post it is not viewable to the general community but as long as the thread exists, a post inside that thread is viewable to a moderator or dev. What did you need to know about the post?. You can click on a mod's name which will take you to their profile where you can pm them directly.
