Anyone running classic AD&D?

Pathfinder is cool and all, but I want some classic, juicy, AD&D action. I played AD&D for 6 years with my friends, practically grew up with it and would really like to return to the system. I already run a pair of campaigns myself and can't take on another, but I'd be willing to help out a potential DM with anything he needed. There's gotta be some love for the classics on Roll20! "If you're getting back to basics, the Fighter and Cleric were supposed to do all the fighting, the Thief was supposed to do all the trapping, and the Wizard was supposed to do something different every week and then probably die."
Hey Tyler, I'm planning on running either an OSRIC or an LL+AEC game soon. Both rulesets are free to download from their publishers: OSRIC is a clone of 1E AD&D (i.e. initiative segments): http://www.knights-n-knaves.com/osric/downloads/OSRIC.pdf (404 page, 59.3 MB .pdf) Labyrinth Lord is a clone of Moldvay-Cook B/X D&D (i.e. "Elf" as a Fighter/Magic-User class): http://www.goblinoidgames.com/docs/GBD1001_no_art.zip (140 page, 6.0 MB .pdf)
Bad ass. Feats suck, unless you can make them yourself maybe.
Bishmer if you have space in your game and its not on wed or thursday I'd love a space for osric
If it's Osric, I'd like a shot.
I'll download those and check them out; I'm definitely interested. If you like, you can email me at flying-emu@hotmail.com :)
Personally, I'd like to play some AD&D 2nd edition. Mostly because I have those books.
@Jeron K. A lot of the OSR stuff is free, including the base rulebooks.
Glad to see there are others who still play them! I run and play in two 2nd edition games. Unfortunately they are all full at the moment, but I like knowing there are others who are still interested. There is a very different feel about it which appeals to me so much more.
The 'feel' to which you refer, is D&D. That designator is nothing more than a brand now. Sometimes burnt into some decent products, but those products are not D&D. At least PathFinder doesn't 'call itself' D&D, nor, to the best of my knowledge, do they strap the milk machine onto the cash cow of v.infinity.
I'm more than okay with running OSRIC, it's far and away my favourite retro-clone. Housekeeping stuff: -I work from home, so my scheduling is pretty flexible. I saw that Frodric had a not-wed/not-thu constraint, so how does everyone feel about the Tuesday at 5:30 pm EST time slot? I could possibly do late-ish morning Sat as well (say starting at 10:30 AM). I was thinking of doing this as a weekly. -Game time should be fun. Roll whatever you'd like, but keep your fellow party member's characters in mind so that there is reasonable diversity and efficiency. I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO DISCUSS THIS EXTENSIVELY STARTING NOW. -I was thinking of doing an original world, but with generally familiar Greyhawk/FR-style tropes and fauna. All wild experimentation will take the form of novel social structures, climate and geology. -Can people list the 1E adventures and modules you've played? Would you want to play any variation of them anew for this campaign? I anticipate doing a generally 65/35 split of original adventures vs premade, with the premade taking over when I'm lazy. -Does everyone have a microphone? I have access to a Mumble server. -I'm pretty new to roll20, so please bear with me as I find tokens/music/handouts etc and convert maps. Hopefully we can get started by the 12th or 9th. I would like to do a trial Mumble+roll20 run next week where we can talk about character creation and such. -Anyone skimming this thread with your interest piqued, please chime in! I'd like to start with a traditionally-sized party of 4-6 players. -Xisiqo
Well, I'm out, but good on you w/the ret-clone.
Bishimar 5:30 tuesday is a bit early for me with work, family, dinner etc. Saturday would be best but after 7pm est Tuesday would work. What does everyone else think?
The only times I can't play are on the weekends before 8pm. As for adventures, I'm normally a 2e'er so the only 1e game I've ever played in is The Temple of Elemental Evil.
Well I have run, owned, or played pretty much most of the 1e modules. I have a huge archive of books on PDF, plus hardbacks of most rule books, lots of Dragon mags, some of the dungeon mags, and the OSRIC stuff on PDF. I would like to play a Cossack based Fighter, spear, saber dagger, Comp short bow. Chain Hauberk and Helm no shield. Human for sure. I can of course adjust to whatever you need.
I've never run a single module; every campaign I've ever played in or ran has been homebrewed aside from half of the Curse of the Crimson Throne Pathfinder module. I'm PST, so the later the game is the easier it will be for me to meet the time. I have a mic and would like to either fill our Cleric or Thief role, but I'm totally down for playing a Wizard if the need arises. Edit: Oh, and I primarily play littlefolk; I'll more than likely be playing a halfling or a dwarf, depending on which class I end up playing. So we'll at least have a bit of racial diversity :')
@Frodric : We can maybe do the Saturday AM slot if Tyler is okay with it. Char concept is fine, go ahead and get started on a background. I will be using the optional Weapon Specialisation rule on pg. 13 of the pdf (but not the optional Double Specialisation rule). @Tyler : Is 8 am PST saturday late enough? I'm actually in a weird TZ (GMT+8) so I can't get started too late, anticipating 2-4 hr sessions. OSRIC has unlimited advancement for both Dwarves and 'Lings in the Thief class, Dwarves get capped at 8 for Cleric and it's not available to Halflings (though I could possibly houserule that if you really want to be a Halfling Cleric).
I am interested in playing with you. I've read 1st edition, but never got to play. I downloaded the OSRIC book, and would like to give it a try. Saturday AM is fine, and my husband is looking to play also. Is the game to be Voice, or Text only?
I'll go with halfling thief then, not a problem. I can do any time on Saturday without issue; it's just during the week that I need a later start
@SteveH : Was re-reading the thread and saw your post. Is there another time that works for you? @Okie_GM : I am going to use Mumble for voice. Do you and your husband have character concepts you'd like to try? @Tyler : Excellent! Feel free to start working on a background.

Ok, since the OSRIC rules are setting agnostic I'll try and come up with something that'll work no matter the world you use. I'll likely just call the Cossacks the Free Riders and make them a culture of organized free men beholden to no nation as a people, but with Tribal Chiefs selling their services as mercs. The PC would then by a Grey Rider (Merc Adventurer) seeking reknown and glory. Should be fairly easy to flesh out from there.
@Bisham. The only times I absolutely have to be at work is on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-4pm MST. Outside of that I can come and go as I please so I'm completely open. Though it looks like my old gaming group that spread to the winds is going to start meeting up Tuesday nights, so I guess that's a no go too.
Hi, I was invited to the thread by TM, I'd love to join! I'm very new to D&D and Roll20, but I have a couple of game's experience of AD&D 4e and a 1e player's handbook, and I learn on the game pretty well. I'm GMT but I'm on disability, so I have a pretty flexible schedule - my only real exceptions are Mondays from 7pm-midnight and Thursdays from 3pm-11:30pm, which is when I get most of my other hobbies done. I'd like to play a half-elf rogue, chaotic neutral, has been in my head a long time and hopefully will be rewarding to play with, even if he catches everyone off guard and steals their purses. I feel I should warn you that it's possible this guy's background might need a little discussion since it's essential to his motives and personality and I got in trouble with my last GM for not knowing all the relevant locations and gods and world mechanics. I am not going to demand special treatment over this, but if you think it's important I'd love to talk it through. Also look at that, it's six thirty in the morning, I gotta sleep. PS: Yes I have a mic. And Skype.
@Everyone : I'm PMing you details to the Mumble server. I am planning on having a stat-rolling and campaign planning discussion this weekend, Saturday, February 9th 8 AM PST/11 AM EST/3 PM GMT. Don't panic if you have to miss this one, but I want the campaign to start with an actual adventure next Saturday. Mumble installation instructions: http://mumble.sourceforge.net/Installing_Mumble I'm still nailing down details about the setting, but I don't see why most chacter concepts wouldn't work (e.g. Frodric's is just fine) @Steve: I'm sorry, but I don't think I can do any other time aside from the Tuesday, which doesn't work for you either. @Liz : The concept is fine, check your PM box for some options you might consider.
That's cool, I'm sure another game will come around.
Hey Bishmer sorry bout the miss, let me know what you want me to do about the stats, I'm around a bit and have skype and the mumble setup.
I am thinking of running my Avery world as either an AD&D or a GURPS 4e. I have never used Roll20 but looking it up and going to be testing it prior to getting the game started. Let me know if you might be interested.

Tyler, you can stick with Thief, Liz will be playing an Assassin. I have a Cleric joining us from another forum, so if Okie+husband can come up with one magic-user between them, the other member of the pair can pretty much be whatever they want.
Let me know if you have anyone drop out - I have a friend I used to play with whom I might be able to talk into joining us.
Sure, let him come.
If anyone has trouble connecting to Mumble etc, please post. I'll be checking the thread as well until we're all in.
Liz will not be joining us for this week's game. I'll see everyone else at 8!
If you need a standin, and dont mind dealing with someone new, I'd love to try my hand at the classic system.
Just a note to remind all players that levels have to be purchased and trained in OSRIC (see pg 118). Still looking for a regular mage for the group, as well. It's early days yet, and I can vouch that these people are a pleasure to DM! If you've ever wanted to try old-school, our game is as accessible as possible.
I will tell you by tomorrow night if my friend will be attending. I'm just not sure he can handle waking up at 8am on a Saturday, so I have tom ake sure he's committed first. Lol
Guys, I'll be running 30 minutes late tonight. Feel free to help our new player with the backstory etc. Glad to hear it Tyler!
He cancelled. Sorry for the mistake. He works nights, said he'd be able to make it. Told me this morning he wouldn't. Apologies.
So is everybody else going to be late or am I missing something vital here? Because I've been sitting on the Mumblr server feeling like a numpty for nearly half an hour now.
Hello there, thread spectator! Interested in trying out old-school? PM me for mumble server details.
@Everyone: I'll have to shelve this week's session. Apologies for the late notice.
Paging Bish......... Status update please.

If this game is still going, or picks back up, I would like to try. I am a player of D&D, AD&D, OSRIC, LL. But I have not been able to find any games on Roll20 to join yet, so I have not tried this site yet. Let me know if there is a session date coming up!
Hi, I'm in the same boat as member "Gold": played AD&D 1e, OSRIC, and LL. Would be interested as well.
I have been playing 2e for awhile now in a nononline setting but I would gladly play 2e or 1e or OSRIC if any one would run it Is OSRIC compatable with any 1e supplment?
Guys, the OSRIC game is still going - so far as we are aware. Our GM is having some family trouble at the moment, so we're waiting for word from him, but when we hear back from him we will definitely let you know! It would be great to have you!
