New d&d player looking for a group to learn with or from. (3.5, 4.0, maybe Pathfinder)

Hey guys, I'm somewhat of a newbie to d&d but have always wanted to play. I'm currently in a campaign right now that I joined later on so they are kinda high leveled. I was looking for a group that has either just started or is low enough to allow time to learn the ropes. I have the handbooks for 3.5 and 4e and I heard pathfinder is similar to 3.5e but I might be mistaken. Pretty much free any day except Wednesdays after 3:00.
Edit: That is 3:00 p.m Pacific Time so 6 EST. I also have skype and a microphone. While I'm not really familiar to RPing, I am game to try it out at least.
If you do find a group let me know please. I'm in your shoes as well.
hey kalvin, i'm in pacific time too! Well, anyway i have a little knowledge about dnd, not much mind you lol. also would like to find a group, especially with people from my own time zone. Let me know if you find anything man!!
I am new to D&D and would like to join this group that seem to be forming....PST as well
You should all send me a message. If later on I decide to just randomly start DMing, it'd be nice to have a group of people in a similar time zone. As of right now I'm just reading the handbooks/DM guides for 4e and 3.5e
Hey Kalvin I am also in PST. I have quite a bit of knowledge of core 3.5 D&D, I'm a decent DM, and pathfinder is indeed very similar to 3.5 except melee classes can do more and everyone is stronger. Pathfinder is open source so here is a link to most everything. http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/
I am in PST as well. My homebrew game, Passages and Perils is a lot like D&D. I'm trying to get a game started here to run on weekends.
From reading your post i dont think your homebrew would be a good match. It is hard to follow and you didnt give a very helpful description. Spell point is not like dnd, most 3.5 doesnt use action points (ticks), Your leveling system is nothing like dnd, . And how do your "ticks" represent 3 seperate things. here is the link to Dr Pepper's game see for yourself if you like it he seems like a nice guy, but it is not similar to dnd from his description in almost anyway.(at least for 3.5 or 4th) http://app.roll20.net/forum/post/57239/homebrew-oldschool-low-powered-fantasy#post-58093
Oh kalvin i can make a quick level that can be a tutorial for you, to introduce the typical stuff like skill checks (climb, diplomacy spot swim etc) and combat (how to attack, critical hits/threats, attacks of opportunity, grappling etc) and how to create your character but for that i can make a powerpoint to be easier. I love DnD and would love to introduce you to it in all its glory.
Actually D&D used Spell Points long before the "memorize/cast/forget" system came in.
ya but if you look at what he want aka 3.5 4th or pathfinder. it isnt based off of spell points. Read what they post before replying. and you have to admit your system is nothing like 3.5
Just wondering when it was that D&D used Spell Points, I've be associated with the game since it's inception, and wondered how I missed that, unless it was just an alternate set of rules that someone came up with?
Mabey he me(e/a)ns psionics?
I started gaming in late 74. It was all spellpoints then.
I'm also down for some of this Roleplaying, I'm familiar with D&D, Shadowrun, and Call of Cthulu. I've never used this site before and would love to try it out with some other new people!
Dr. Pepper + spellpoints + 74.... proto T&T? I've been truckin' since the get go. There were homebrew games /mods that used SPs. T&T was more back alley then. I don't even think it was officially in print. AG came out w/spell points a bit after. Runequest, spell points. The fantasy trip... Chivalry & Sorcery.
I log on just to check the status of things, check out this thread and it's jumped about 100 views and discussion like crazy. Christian, I'd love to join you guys, are you starting a game or do you have one already running? Thanks for the pathfinder link I'll browse it over a few times.
What i was saying is i can create if the want is there a quick level to explain all the basics of the game. and/or join up with yall.
Why not! I'm free tomorrow if you want to set up a pathfinder or d&d game. Might be a good way to jump into things.
Cant do it tomorrow cause of the super bowl thing, have prior engagements. But during the week I can make it and sometime fri-sun i can show you.
Woops, forgot Superbowl Sunday. Alright, how about next Saturday then?
Sure sounds fine.
Any chance I could get in on this as well? I am new to this site and would like to learn how to play as well.
Sure Thing
