I get that the pink mohawk style of play gets old, fast, and that kind of crazy is better reserved for npcs, but the literal point of shadowrun is that you are not playing a stereotypical "good guy", at best an antihero. I'll agree with you that the "tons of collateral damage" aspect generally means shit has hit the fan if it gets to that point. ((unless the game is designed towards the batshit crazy end of the pink-mowhawk-go-ganger stuff)) With that said, did you maybe have an example of the kind of game you're looking for? Again, not trying to come across as confrontational Oh, I don't see your concern as confrontational at all. In fact, it's a common concern, and discussing it in good-natured interest is appreciated. I prefer playing characters that start as non-Shadowrunners, but grow into it. Good examples would be ex-corporate people, gangers, just about anyone that lost their SIN against their intentions, people forced to suddenly scramble for money, Syndicate wiseguys, or those with loyalty to people with shady connections. There's lots of options - I just prefer to slip and slide into the shadows and learn to cope, rather than be native to it right out of the gate. To an extend, my preferences can be combined with more typical Shadowrunner characters. There'll be a measure of being a fish out of water, but there can be strengths as well to having ties elsewhere - especially if those ties are understanding on the necessities of the darker sides of the milieu.
