[LFG] Trying to get together a shadowrun 3e game for nostalgia's sake.

I'm willing to DM if no one else volunteers, but ideally I'm hoping to be able to once again play the ancient system as a player.  Is anyone else interested in getting together to play?  If so, comment below, and we can all discuss details.
I sure love the system, but the most important thing is to get a group together that is harmonious and plays in complementary styles. So, what did you have in mind?
i prefer 4e, but if you can get this going i'd be down with a 3e game, as for GMing i'd be willing to rotate with you every few sessions if you needed a break or just wanted to sit on the other side of the table for a bit
I would prefer a semi-serious campaign, but ultimately i'd be cool with whatever the GM wanted.
i see four of us, that's enough to get a game started :) Any idea what you guys would like to play? I usually drift towards a blend of street samurai/weapon specialists with a splash of stealth
I think finding out mutual playstyles and personalities is an important priority. For instance, I'm rarely interested in games where everyone is a "professional criminal" or terrorist. I also don't play with people under the age of 25 or thereabouts - too much of an age gap. Last but not least, I have zero interest in games with tons of collateral damage. That usually means pink mohawk is out (but not necessarily - pink mohawk can also mean gangers / gutter punks or any other number of playstyles). And I expect that everyone has their own preferences along those lines, and that things won't overlap perfectly. As a result, it's quite likely that only two people out of four sufficiently overlap to form a group. It's probably worthwhile to form a greater collection of interested people, first, then add up preferences and availability.
At risk of sounding confrontational, the things you describe as turn offs strongly suggest that you don't actually like shadowrun to me. I get that the pink mohawk style of play gets old, fast, and that kind of crazy is better reserved for npcs, but the literal point of shadowrun is that you are not playing a stereotypical "good guy", at best an antihero. I'll agree with you that the "tons of collateral damage" aspect generally means shit has hit the fan if it gets to that point. ((unless the game is designed towards the batshit crazy end of the pink-mowhawk-go-ganger stuff)) With that said, did you maybe have an example of the kind of game you're looking for? Again, not trying to come across as confrontational

Again, not trying to come across as confrontational Oh, I don't see your concern as confrontational at all. In fact, it's a common concern, and discussing it in good-natured interest is appreciated. I prefer playing characters that start as non-Shadowrunners, but grow into it. Good examples would be ex-corporate people, gangers, just about anyone that lost their SIN against their intentions, people forced to suddenly scramble for money, Syndicate wiseguys, or those with loyalty to people with shady connections. There's lots of options - I just prefer to slip and slide into the shadows and learn to cope, rather than be native to it right out of the gate. To an extend, my preferences can be combined with more typical Shadowrunner characters. There'll be a measure of being a fish out of water, but there can be strengths as well to having ties elsewhere - especially if those ties are understanding on the necessities of the darker sides of the milieu.
that paints a clearer picture :)
For me Pink mohawk works only if you play a street level game where the worse opposition you have are go-gangs and smaller organisations. As soon as you start to go up against C,B or even A corps pink mohawk would just would not very often get hired unless the job is to kill everyone in a building. Most Jonhssons to me would prefer a professional that gets a job done with minimal collateral damage and notice. Sure if the job is a structure hit the you can go blow down the doors and such but for most hits you would prefer if the mark does not know you where there. Unless you start as Prime runners you should not really start as Runners, you would just be starting out for different reasons and learn to deal with the situation your character is in. Those are my two nuyen.
So, diablo, erz, I sent you a pm for the invite.
