Looking for someone who owns Monster Manual on Roll20

December 13 (7 years ago)
Hi, Would any owners have the time to setup a fake campaign with the Monster Manual tokens/maps set up for me to view as a GM? I would like to see what I am purchasing. Much appreciated, thanks in advance

you get the ability to drag and drop any MM in the book into your game fully stated shet is also generated. there is no module to build the game on.

The list is precisely the ones in the Monster Manual, and it is the identical art.  The Avatar for each monster is the large picture from the book, the token is a pog-style round clip of the picture.  They are sized appriately to their monster.

It would be the same as this list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Dungeons_%26...
Or go here: http://donjon.bin.sh/5e/monsters/ and choose the source to be mm

a quick scan of that - it has bug bear, dragon, orcs and those are monsters we already have on the compendium.. so I wanted to see what NEW monsters are being added that I don't currently have. There seems to be alot of overlap with MM

Yes, there is some overlap, but note that the monsters in the Monster Manual are more complete than the SRD ones.  For example, Dragons in the SRD do not have lair actions.

Just looking at the Table of Contents for each monster, you can see the difference:

The Monster Manual contains the full text of the physical Monster Manual, in addition to tokens and artwork for all the monsters.  The Tokens will look like the ones for the SRD (I believe they were backported from the Monster Manual as they didn't originally exist).

Note that because the Monster Manual is a Compendium expansion and is tied to an Account, not a Game, there isn't a good way for someone to "share" it with you to check it out.  But if you've used the SRD monsters (and it sounds like you have), it's identical in functionality, but with the full details of the Monster Manual (you can flip through it in a hobby store, or look at pictures online, or videos).

Further, Roll20 has a great return policy, so if you buy it, look through it, and find you don't want it after all, you can email them at team@roll20.net to see about a refund.  (Feel free to email them first and make sure of that, of course).

Hmmm, well this has been helpful for me.  I FINALLY understand why I paid $50 for this thing.  I never did realize that there was MORE info on each monster in the Manual as opposed to the SRD.  So I guess my Volo's is the same way huh?  Cool.

Quite right!  Volo's additionally has Addon maps for the lairs of various types of monsters.  If you want to compare monsters in your purchased Monster Manual to ones in the compendium, you can copy the link and go to an incognito window and paste it.  When not logged in, links to creatures that exist in both will show the SRD version, when logged in, it will show the more complete version from any purchases.
