Newbie Tabletop RPG-er LFG ~ OneRing, D&D3.5/4e. Open to other suggestions.

The title pretty much explains it all. I'm looking to get into tabletop RPGs, any that interests me. But I'm fairly inexperienced. I've had two groups flake on me, so anyone that offers please honor it. If you aren't afraid to teach a wet-behind-the-ears newbie how to RPG the old-fashioned way, you'd have an eager student. EDIT: My availability is Fri-Sun at any time. I am EST, though. I have no real preferances RPG-wise, but I'm interested in The One Ring, D&D3.5/4e and Dragon Age. I do like other genres as well. Cyberpunk, Steampunk, Sci-Fi, horror, mystery, asian/japanese-inspired.
Bump.
Anyone?... Bueller?
I have a game going right now from 6:30 ish PM Central until about 10:30 PM Central on Saturdays and Sundays. Underdark campaign. The current storyline is a bit gritty (teenage girls showing up dead in the alleys, who did it? and can you stop them?) Started last week, so there is no problem bringing in someone new. Using Pathfinder Rules (<a href="http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/" rel="nofollow">http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/</a>) and ObsidianPortal (<a href="http://www.obsidianportal.com/" rel="nofollow">http://www.obsidianportal.com/</a>) for character sheets.
Wow, that's... a lot of information. I don't quite know where to start.
I can walk you through the basics, they are not hard. I'm helping one of my players better understand the basics of roleplaying at noon Central time. Or I can help you some other time during the week, or earlier on Saturday or Sunday, if you are interested. I'm very patient with beginners.
Yeah, I would love that. I work nights through the week so it would have to be a Sat/Sun. I'm also EST, just to inform you.
Two of my players are East Coast, so no problem. We start at about 7:30 PM on Sat/Sun and run to 11:00 PM or sometimes 11:30 EST. The campaign is Shalaida.
Shalaida? Is that a setting like Forgotten Realms? And would you like to set a time for earlier on Sat to sit down and walk me through it?
Definately would like an earlier time on Sat to walk you through the basics, and roll up a character if you are interested. Shalaida is the setting I've created. It is a city in my world. It is also the name I've given my campaign on Roll20.
Cool. I always like to see worlds created by normal people. Also, I'd be free for any time on Saturday. I'd love to make a character, especially if I have help to sort things out. After perusing that info you gave me, I easily became confused with all the advanced races and prestige classes, etc. that I saw. Although I've always been fascinated by Bladesingers, I figure it'd probably be best to start small. Unless being a Bladesinger wouldn't hinder the group or campaign.
Sounds like a plan. I will check out the Bladeslinger. Been kinda busy lately, but all's fun. Right now, best to stick with the basics. I am trying to stick with only standard races, and prestige classes don't kick in 'til later.
Alright, that sounds fair enough. If Bladesinger (they're mostly elven and half-elven) ends up being a problem, I can always make a nice Halfling Rogue/Ranger type of character. I think that'd be fun.
So I just signed up to Obsidian Portal using the same username, ShieldWarden, and found your Shalaida campaign. I wasn't expecting to see so many characters, lol. Especially level 4's! But I'm eager to tink around with the character sheet on there. :D
Ok, I will zip you an invite. Not all the characters are currently in play.
Cool. I'm kind of excited. ^___^ I looked into some Bladesinger mechanics. I could be an Elf Rogue and still qualify as long as I have the appropriate skills. I thought that was awesome. lol
Actually, after reading more in-depth into it... it's all a bit confusing. I might just stay simple and hopefully make a Bladesinger character down the road.
