Is there a place to learn how to use Roll20 as a player? The tutorial seems to be about creating dungeons, which I have no interest in doing. I'd just like to learn how to create a character and play. Thanks.

About the best way to learn how to create a character and play is to find a game that interest you and try to get invited in. You can always create your game room and play with everything in it to learn how to create characters and make the rolls.
Uh, there are no games listed.

Roll20 is a place to play the games, with others, online. Which game (game system / rule set / title) do you want to play? Usually you shop for that game online, sometimes buying a product like D&D 5E Starter Set or Player's Handbook, those kinds of products contain rules for games and teaches you how to play a game whether you play it at your home tabletop or online via Roll20. The Tutorial really teaches you how to use the tools of Roll20, which can be used for playing any game. Here are some Wiki docs for when you start looking for a game group to Join, https://wiki.roll20.net/Looking_for_Group
I wanted to try D&D 5e. I have the Player's Handbook. I already play in a Pathfinder game in the real world. I applied for a game, but since I can only do text, it's kind of slim pickings.

Lol. I'm the creator of a roll20 text based community called " Knights of the Written Word 2 ". We have a variety of games recruiting in our forums.

Great! If you want to try out the Character Sheets --- Roll20 has an official Character Sheet for 5E, and multiple community-created sheets for PF. With your free account you can click on "Start New Game" to create a game table, as if you were going to GM. When you create the game you can choose the Character Sheet. Then launch-in to your created game and click over to Journals tab, click Add Character, and then you can look at the character sheet and even fill-it-out if you want to make a character. This is good practice.
Well, do we roll up the stats or point buy or use the stat array?

If you're practicing and getting ready in a test game, then it's up to you to determine options like the stat generation method.
How do I delete this test game?

Go to your detail page for the game and click on the setting button then choose delete game.
Thank you.
