New to Roll20 (and D&D for that matter)

I was hoping to find someone who could show me the ropes when it comes to D&D, I've never played before but would like to try however I have no friends who are into tabletop games so it's difficult to get into. if anyone has any tips that would be appreciated also. :)
Tips: Include time zone and days when you can play Say what kind of adventures you want to be in. Did you watch Critical Role and so you want to play 4e or 5e D&D for example? Did you watch Will Wheaton's Show on Numenera and want to give something like that a try. Were you a fan of Bright on Netflix and wanted to RP in a similar world, or are you hunting for something out of Lord of the Rings?

I'm in the UK so im working on GMT. Im free most evenings except sunday but that may change over time. And yeah I've seen a few D&D streams but I'm honestly completely new to the scene so I'd probably prefer anything that isn't too complex to begin with. I know that's about as vague as I can get but for now i'd say something along the lines of Vanilla D&D :)
another easy answer that can help people pick you. Describe the type of Games you like : heavy combat vs lite combat Heavy story vs lite < do you prefer a fully immersive narrative or are you good with a basic intro to a scene would you prefer a text only game play or are you ok with voice or video do you have discord or would you prefer to use teamspeak if needed or other by vanilla DnD are you comparing that to warhammer , world of warcraft ? then you can go from there with those who would like to have you.
Id probably prefer to play a game that's lighter on combat and more story driven. not too fussed if its fully immersive or not and i'm okay with voice on discord but probably wouldn't use video. And no by Vanilla DnD I just meant the simplest form of D&D with no addons, if that's even the correct terminology :)
Speaking as someone who JUST got back into the hobby after a very long time and might as well have been new to be perfectly honest... DnD 5e is fairly accessible, but it's worked to get me back into the hobby and it's worked to help my wife to get into it for the first time, so maybe try looking for a DnD 5e game to play? I would also suggest maybe doing a little research into a couple different games first. You don't have it immerse yourself in lore but maybe just see if you can get some basic rules from online tutorials or YouTube videos, maybe pick a system you like if you find that 5e isn't working, then when you feel like you have some better idea of the specifics of what you want, post that you're looking for a specific game. My gut feeling is that people will be more likely to take you on if you have a specific interest in what they are doing as opposed to a vague interest in RPGs overall, if that makes sense.
Hey Ryker, Feel free to check out my game. Im running on GMT+1, so time difference is not massive at all... I want to run a game specifically for beginners. Have a read, and if it seems interesting, let me know. https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/5990604/it-only-...
