Hi. Have you ever heard of the Laundry Files series, by Charles Stross? If not, here's a brief summary: lovecraftian black comedy spy thrillers set in the present day featuring computer science and sanity-destroying monsters, such as the Quality Assurance schemes of the British government. (I once heard them described as "'Yes, Minister' meets 'Call of Cthulhu'"). They're rather good. This is the official Laundry Files RPG, largely based on Call of Cthulhu, but with interesting additions, such as the rules for combating paperwork and office politics. I'm looking for a group of 3-5 players to take on the roles of 3-5 new recruits into the Laundry, the UK's top-secret occult secret service, which does all the things you genre-savvy players expect such an agency to do. Your recruitment was involuntary, and mandated by an act of parliament the existence of which is itself secret. Your own missions are _not_ secret from you; this isn't Paranoia. The system and setting are flexible enough to make a wide variety of characters useful; from an octogenarian antiquarian, to a (former) up-and-coming bank executive, to a college dropout with an unhealthy obsession with tabletop RPGs. Not to get meta or anything. I'm planning on running at 5pm GMT on Wednesdays, but I and the players I already have are pretty flexible on that. Monday - Tuesday are all fine, and the time can be adjusted a few hours either way. If this sounds interesting, but you have never read the books, fear not! For I, your GM, will impart all the necessary lore, drip by drip, as it becomes known to your characters. This may take a long, long time, given the (a) occult and (b) classified nature of virtually everything that is going on. This is a feature, not a flaw; nothing's worse than having a story spoilt. The same goes for people with little or no experience playing rpgs: it's far easier than it looks, and I can give you all the help you need. This is a *paid* game, and I appreciate that many players have reservations about that. Therefore, the first session will be free, to allow you to make up your minds and get a metaphorical look at me before committing. I've been GM-ing, both in person and via Roll20, for years, and I am confident that you'll get your money's worth out of me. (Not that that means much when I'll be making less than minimum wage from this...). Official Roll20 Notice: This game will require payment to the Game Master at a rate of £5 (or US$7 or €5) per person per 5-hour session, payable via PayPal or Revolut. Roll20 is not responsible for any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements.
