Complete newbie looking to learn

I'm looking to learn some d&d 5e.(already bought the handbook and guide to everything) Would anyone be willing to take on a total newbie? I'll need some handholding. Like when to roll what, and what to roll. I.e. I don't fully understand the concept of "saving throw" yet. Understand attack and damage rolls. Perception, etc. But there's some things I just don't get yet. I've been brainstorming what I'm told is a very contradictory character. A drow cleric. Very reserved and secretive. Skiddish and cautious. Likes to avoid conflict and damage and will protect and heal ALL THE THINGS. Including enemies. This is why he was exiled and has lived a secluded hermit life. Sits back, hidden, and observes most of the time. Offering what he considers "help" whenever the moment strikes. EDIT: PST Time Zone

You should put your time zone in your profile and post. It helps GMs and players choose you.
