[LFG] D&D 5E Looking for a session zero group

Hello everyone, even though I'm new to Roll20 (just started using this site a few days ago) I quickly noticed a pattern in the looking for a game tool, and that is the vast majority of the time a character is required on your application to join the group. Now I don't think that there's anything wrong with that, but I want to join a group where the players and DM sit together (virtually) in a session zero and create characters together. Not only because this seems much more fun than everyone creating their characters in isolation, but also can result in much more interesting characters, with shared backstories and suggestions from others. Plus the players get to know each other before the game actually starts. Another reason I don't like the "send your application with you character" is that I have so many different characters I want to play and I don't want to pigeonhole myself by selecting one before knowing much about the game I'm joining. After all I want to play D&D and not character A or B . So with all that said here's some information about me. Name : Anderson, but I prefer my nickname Rato if it's alright with you. Age : 30 Experience with the Dungeons and the Dragons : As of yesterday 1 session! Yes, I never played before yesterday but I've clocked over a thousand hours watching people play online (Critical Role is probably 500 hours of that), and so I have a pretty solid grasp on the rules. Now let's get to the more important stuff Time : My timezone is GMT-3 and I'm looking for games on Saturdays/Sundays/late Fridays. What I'm looking for : Like a said, a session zero game, but I would also like to be in a setting I'm familiar with (Forgotten Helms and Tal'Dorei (Critical Role's official setting)) But I'm okay with other settings, including homebrew ones, it's just a preference. I also like to act in character and speak in character, but by no means I want/expect others to do the same. If others on the group like that as well then great! But it's absolutely not a requirement, I just like to RolePlay as much as I like to roll the dice both in combat and outside. If there's a group out there looking to start a new game with a session zero please consider me. If not, anyone interested in a game like this is free to post here and if we're lucky enough to find someone willing to GM this then we can start. Anyway, thanks for your attention. Good luck and have fun! EDIT:  My bad everyone, totally forgot to mentioning I'm looking for a group with voice chat, I don't want a text based game. Should've said this from the beginning! It's important stuff.

After all I want to play D&D and not character A or B . I'm in the same boat as you, Rato! I was actually going to make another forum post. But after reading through yours, I realized we have the same goal: to play D&D. I've personally been looking to try DMing, but depending on what happens, I'd be down to pair with you as a Player as well!  Name : Mike Age : 23 Experience with the Dungeons and the Dragons : I'm part of an ongoing West-Marches campaign. The times for these campaigns are so convenient and flexible, but I've been looking to gain more "traditional" D&D 5E experience. Time : My timezone is EST and I'm looking for games on Saturdays/Sundays/late Fridays. What I'm looking for : I'm looking for more experience with the D&D 5E system rather than a specific setting. But, I'll read up on common settings if necessary. Also looking for a very team-focused and a progressive narrative campaign!
While it's Pathfinder and not 5e, the basic concepts are similar enough that you might want to join us tonight in  The Color Animal Inn. -Phnord
Hey there, Phnord. Unfortunately I'm not interested in Pathfinder nor a one shot. I don't know much about pathfinder, but from my understanding it has a lot of things going on, for some people too many things. I also want to play in a long campaign with the same people and develop our characters and story together, so for now I'm avoiding one shots. But thanks for the interest! Now Mike, buddy, now you and me might have something here. You can be a player or DM, whatever you prefer. But if you decide to DM possibly the biggest hurdle of this little endeavor of mine can be overcome, from what I've seem finding players is easy, we're everywhere! But if you prefer we may keep looking for another DM if you're not comfortable with that. Your choice. Now that you brought up traditional experience it reminds me that's also something I wanted to mention. Part of the reason why I would prefer a established setting as opposed to a homebrew is that in the Forgotten Realms or Tal'Dorei exemples I mentioned I already know generaly what to expect and what I can do. While in some homebrew settings certain races behave wildly differently or straight up don't exist. As a new player I want the more traditional experience first, and maybe in the future I might go for those more unique ones. But like I said, I'm willing to do this in any setting, those are just preferences. I don't want to be too picky here. Anyway, hope we get more people interested here. Let's do this!
Interested in a session zero game for sure.  Late Fri/Sat/Sun is good on my end.  Please PM me if something is in the works!

I am in a somewhat similar boat with a twist.  I have, literally, never played an RPG before (parents were convinced D&D was the tool of Satan... but I'm feeling much better now ).  My son (8.5-ish) recently saw the Star Wars games while we were at a Pokémon TCG prerelease.  Since the only thing he likes more than Pokémon is Star Wars, he is interested.  So now I have the learn some basics, and I have stumbled across this site in my YouTube education.  I would not mind learning basics in D&D, presuming the skills are transferable.
Never played a D&D game ever, i am looking to play of course, and the only experience i have is watching stuff online and watching Critical roll each Thursday, so i was more like in a "outside looking in" kind of situation. The more i watched the more i wanted to try it out and since i have no friend nor local group/game store running D&D games the opportunity never showed itself to me, i heard Roll20 was a pretty solid alternative so here i am ! Tho i have NO idea whats going on here, idk even where to start... or how to make a character, i guess i need a lot of hand holding for this. I guess i get the basic of it, but as far as i skill/spells goes i have NO idea whatsoever... so i am a new player looking and willing to learn how to play D&D

Hey there everyone. Uriel and Chibi Dragoon, you're all welcome to join, experience is not a issue, session zero is great to help people out making their characters. And the rest we'll take from there, plus I can appreciate another critter. I'm totally up to teach people how to play, don't worry about it. One thing I failed to point out in the original post and I should've have mentioned, is that I'm looking for people capable of voice chat. Preferably good quality because it can be hard to understand someone with bad audio. My bad for forgetting this.  James, I'm not 100% sure of what you meant by "I would not mind learning basics in D&D, presuming the skills are transferable." Do you mean skills being transferable between D&D and the Star Wars TTRPG? If that's the case I have absolutely no idea, since I know nothing about the Star Wars system. So, we're still looking for a DM here, and we kinda need one to take things off. I might be the one who started all this but I'm more than willing to leave some of the final decision about the group to any possible DM. Like the setting and how many players and possibly other things. Personally I'm looking for a party of 6, but anything in between that and 4 is 100% OK with me.
Rato Insano Awesome thank you to be willing to teach me the ropes! My time zone is GMT-5 (so i would guess i am 2 hours ahead of you) and i am available pretty much each day from about 6 PM up until 11-12 PM during the week and during the weekend well... who needs to sleep >_> I can definitely do voice chat, tho English isn't my main language ( French Canadian here ) i might be abit more on the shy side because of that and i didn't speak English with a random group for ages so sorry if my dialog won't be amazingly flourishing and flashy ._. So it might impact me on the role play side which i wouldn't mind at all doing and actual looking toward such a thing, that is what kinda pushing me into all of this after all. Idk how you do your voice chat but i do have a Discord if needed.
Rato, I mean learn the fundamentals of role-playing.
Hey Rato, nice to see you again! I am actually looking for a group to play on sundays! I have a good bit of experience, so I could be able to help with character creation!

ok three questions Do you still need a dm? How many are you? What days are you looking at? based on these questions i may be avalable for a session zero into a full campain as a dm.
Hello there, Keglex. Thanks for the reply. We have no confirmed GM at the moment so your offer is greatly appreciated. As of right now about five players, give or take. I'm gunning for Saturday and Sunday with late Friday as a secondary option. My time is GMT-3. If you're interested hit me up with a PM so we can discuss things ir more detail. Chibi, buddy, don't worry about your vocabulary. English is not my first language either, however language is about understanding each other, if we can understand what you mean that's all that matters.  James I believe you would be be better served looking for a Star Wars game around here, I gave a glance around out of curiosity and there's a few open for players. That option might serve you better. Sup Aura, if we can get the game on Sunday you're welcome as well!
Rato, probably, but I saw this and decided to jump in.  I mean, what's the worst that could happen?  Yeah, I am trying to figure out which Star Wars game might work... :)

Hey James, I saw about five of them looking for a player, it might be best to give those ones a shot first. This way you not only start learning to roleplay but also the rules of the game you're interested in! Good luck and have fun! EDIT:  Just throwing it out there that for now we're full! I am honestly surprised we got this done in less than a day. I was half expecting this to fizzle out and not amount to anything. I'm glad I was wrong. We're going with five players, if a spot opens up I will inform everyone here. Cheers!
