It combines genres of cyberpunk, urban fantasy and crime, with occasional elements of conspiracy, horror and detective fiction." Zero World: Running the Numbers aims to combine elements of Shadowrun with the typical Lord of the Rings style fantasy worlds that frequently appear in D&D. Players will travel across an altered version of modern day Earth while doing 'runs,' various mission-style sessions which are part of an overall storyline and the more they interact with and explore, the more the world around them changes along with them. I encourage players to think outside the box and get creative- anything can and will happen, and the party will just need to adapt and roll with the situation at hand. Powerful tyrants known as Sorceror Kings; near-godlike men and women who wield might and magic to control the citizens of vast city-states and their Templar agents enforce their will with brutal efficiency. Many offenses, even minor ones could result in forced labor/slavery, public torture, or worse, being sent to the gladiator pits where one must face bloodthirsty creatures and infamous pit-fighters to gain their freedom, if they somehow manage to survive...In the cities, ruthless Merchant Houses* wage gangland turf wars in attempts to dominate the struggling economy. Magically apt members of the Veiled Alliance's splinter cells launch guerrila assaults against the Sorceror Kings and their followers, gaining them the reputation of domestic terrorists. Elven hustlers hock their wares in the Elven Markets, where anything can be bought and sold for the right price. In these pop-up tent cities, the only law is coin. As for life outside the city-states, escaped slaves roam the wastelands hoping to find a place to scrape out a living among deadly monsters, raider tribes, and worse- that is, if the scorching sun doesn't kill them first. If all this isn't bad enough, a creature known as the Dragon of Tyr, an immensely powerful being roams the desert, laying waste to anything he sees fit- from Sorceror Kings to entire cities. The 'true' gods of this world have long ago abandoned it, if they ever existed on the blistering world of Athas at all- Priests worship the elemental spirits, fiendish entities, and other obscure 'religions' to gain their spells. Can you brave this world of savagery, slavery, and tyrannical oppression and rise to fame or infamy among the populace in hopes of carving out a niche of power for yourself among the mover-and-shakers of this hellish place? *After the fall of Tyr's Sorceror-King, Kalak, and the declaration that it would be the first city-state to outlaw slavery (a common practice on Athas), the region was thrown into chaos. It is from this ensuing anarchy that the West Estuary Trading Company (WET Co.) was founded by an enterprising group of adventuring mercenaries. They became the leading members of what is now one of the most profitable and deadly upstart Merchant Houses in the Tyr Region.
