[LFG] Want to run a non-standard Supers campaign(ICONS Assembled)

1518326318

Edited 1518378251
I want to run a supers campaign(or one/two shot) with a twist, what that might mean would be up to a few different ideas whether people want to go with a modern setting, historical or fantasy setting or something a bit more futuristic and sci-fi. My ideas are basically this Historical/Fantasy Inglorious (WW2 Alternate History) You are supers air dropped behind enemy lines in an alternate WW2 in Nazi occupied territory with one order, sow havoc and disrupt Hitlers war machine at all cost. Dogs of the Military (Diesel Punk Fantasy, WW1 Era Tech Level) You are all officers of a combined foreign and domestic military force in a society were serving the state with your abilities affords you access to many of the resources of the upper class, but you are also called upon to serve as political pawns and war machines at times by those in power, who see you as little more than curiosities and living weapons. Dispossessed (Victorian/Edwardian Inspired Steampunk Fantasy) You are all marked as Outcaste by your abilities in a corrupt and failing society, hunted by those blessed by the Church of Everlasting Purity with powers meant to match those of the Outcaste, you are all left to rot in the gutter among the rats and cut-purses, what will you make of yourself in such a world? Modern Aberrant Academy You are teenagers enrolled in a private school for kids with special abilities, beyond having to deal with odd teachers, super bullies and the awkwardness of dorm life, there seems to be something sinister afoot at the academy, and you have got to find out what it is before it's too late! Ravenmire Ultra-Max Penitentiary You are super villains, the worst of the worst, that's how you ended up in this glorified box surrounded by power armored guards and bright orange jump suits. But other than the prison gangs and the awful food, there's something up with the guards, and the warden seems to have a pan for the prisoners that you are guessing you aren't gonna like. That's okay though, you got a plan too, super villains always do after all. Strangers in a Strange Land You are not normal, whether you are an alien, a monster, or a secret government project you are not someone/thing that blends well in a world were super powers literally didn't exist until you arrived. Something about your powers marks you as obviously strange and powerful, you cannot hide from a word that will fear you, but what will you do when it is threatened? Future/Sci-Fi The Cursed Earth The earth has been destroyed, the human race decimated, small pockets of survivors scratch out a meager existence in the wastes but few aspire to rebuild the old world that destroyed itself in the superhuman arms race. Still however, warring tribes of wastelanders fight with scavenged super-tech or power passed down by bloodline or training since the times before the fall, though there are no longer large cities to destroy or a modern world to disrupt, the superwar rages on in the bleak, lifeless plains of the wastes. Galaxy Police In a far flung future, the races of the galaxy have populated it's reaches and established a peaceful society, but there are those among the numberless species of The Union who seek to disrupt or manipulate it for their own gains. the advancesments of millenia have made such criminals and terrorists only all the more cunning and powerful, in answer there were formed elite teams of Union citizens who, either by technology or inborn ability, have those fantastic abilities that would allow them to contain such unconventional crimes. The Omni-War A hundred thousand years in the future a war rages that extinguishes stars in the millions and harnesses the energy of galaxies as weapons, a terrifying conflict in which a billion lives in but an afterthought to the massive casualties of the war. You are weapons in this war, beings with the power to destroy planets, stars and civilizations, awakened for the  first time to join the frontline in a war unlike any the universe has ever known.(The normal scale of effect for powers and abilities in ICONS will be cranked up to 11 for this one, so buckle in for some crazy stuff.) So, any interest in these settings? I know it's a lot of options and I may want to run a coupe of them at once but I'd want about 3-5 players for a campaign to really get going.
I have the ICONs book, but I've never actually gotten to try it. There are a couple of these here that sound interesting to me, but it would depend on when you were thinking of doing it.

If it was a one/two shot and on a day/time that I could be available, I'm interested.
I'm usually available 12pm-12am  Mountain Time
Well, if you're looking at something friday, saturday, or sunday afternoon/evening, I'd be down for Dogs of the Military , Aberrant Academy , Galaxy Police,  or maybe The Omni-War.
Afternoon might work on those days, If I can get a couple more players to give a vote of confidence in one of those ideas I'll proceed. As for one/two shots, I can easily see any of these having a self contained initial arc that ties up for some characters but continues in a series for others if some want a sorter story and others want something more long term..
My one question would be the mode that you'd be using for the roleplay...  video, voice or text, etc...
I would generally prefer voice or video, but would be fine with text if that's what is availbable to interested players.
I would love to join; those ideas sound terribly interesting. I'm GMT so timing might be an issue but I have some free evenings during the week.
I'll keep an eye on this, but I unfortunately can't do voice.
So from what I'm seeing here, maybe a text based game sometimes around or after 8pm GMT on Friday, would I have at least three people interested in that? and if so what are your top three votes for setting ranks first to third?
It will depend on if I get a job that gives me Friday hours, but I think it's doable.  That's noon for me, and I'm currently looking for a job. My choices would be...  Aberrant Academy...  Galaxy Police...  and...  well, I don't really have a third choice...  I'm not sure how well the other settings work for a teen techie character. I'll need to get ICONS to look over the system.  I don't think I've played it, though I've played just about every other superhero system that's been made.
Megan Jones said: I'm not sure how well the other settings work for a teen techie character. Pretty well, actually, it's a pretty standard supers achetype so it can fit well in any of these, especially the futurisitc and "tech-punk" settings liked Dispossessed or Dogs

I already have a link to the ICONS open game content, but I'll have a look for the actual SRD.  I didn't realize that there was one.

That is what i was calling the srd. It is similar. OGC is based on OGL which is what the SRD is based off or so I understand.
Pretty much.  The only reason that they can post SRDs is by using the open content material.  If they posted anything else, it would be copyright infringement.

As we veared off thread topic. I think we need to move back on subject.  i think i can do it Friday if it is text.
So it's looking like Abberant Academy is the consensus? or was that just Megan and Arcos?

Arcosus Pat S. Megan Jones Griffin . It looks like Aberannt Academy is the one we are going with, but we are holding an official vote on what setting this game will be, everyone list your top three and I'll use that to determine the most popular setting and run that.

I've made a couple games that are simply labeled "non-Stardard Super TBD" (game #1 will be whatever we end up choosing here) so people can join up there to continue discussion if the boards are less preferable, for those wanting to play Academy, it's gonna be hard to compress my ideas down to a one or two shot on that one, as that I had envisioned as a longer arc over multiple school years, if you are wanting to only be in the first part of it though that can be worked into the story
I'm fine with however long we play.  I like extended games with plenty of character interaction.

So from the votes already cast it looks like Game one is going to be Aberrant Academy, which will be a longer running game, I have created an LFG post for those interested, I encourage further votes however, as I still may run another campaign.
I would be interested in joining for the ride.  I like the ideas being presented here.
Hey Cameron,  I've been a fan of ICONS for a long time but haven't had a chance to play it. I would be very interested in playing this depending on the Day and time. The most interesting scenario you outlined above is the "OMNI-WAR" but I'd play just about any of them. Please feel free to drop and line and I'll let you know if I'm available.  Peace --Mike

So, it looks like the first game is getting rolling under the Aberrant Academy label, there are 2 remaining openings in that game and I am giving time and priority for those who were in this thread to join up if the want.  Now I am still looking to start a second ICONs game from those chosen here, it's looking like our top choices for that one are either Galaxy Police, The Omni War or The Cursed Earth, though I do have one vote each for Dogs of the Military and Dispossessed. I'm gonna wait until I can get a better gras on who is jumping on AA before we start voting on that one though.
hey im interested, never played anything other than D&D but am willing to try
I'm interested in playing the Omni War but don't mind the other options too much. Do you have any general idea of day and time for the second game?
I'm still waiting for details on the first game getting rolling a a bit more before I decide that, I'll be back to this thread in a couple days once things are in place for Aberrant Academy.
im interested in joining and have world of darkness, dnd and pathfinder
I'm in Australia/AEST/UTC+10 but have pretty flexible hours. Always been interested in exploring out from D&D so this could be fun, I'd definitely be up for Galaxy Police (Even Omni-War is pretty neat.) Heck, if there were even a slot open for Aberrant Academy I'd be up for that.

I'd also like to join, alongside JuHerd and Shaquille, also from Australia. My timezone is GMT+9:30 but I also have flexible hours.  I've played D&D 5E for a while, also slightly familiar with M&M, and I've read briefly through the ICONS book. Big fan of the superhero theme. I'd also like to play the Galaxy Police or Omni-War plots. Also, I'm happy to do voice.
I'm interested as well. I've never played ICONS before but I've been reading the book and was already a huge fan of the superhero genre. I've played a lot of DnD 5e and a little VtM. My schedule is pretty flexible as well. Interested most in Galaxy Police for the potential "FOR JUSTICE!" monologues, but also Omni-War for the potential over-the-top action.
