Ratings For Users On the Scale of 1 to 5 [1 Being Very Bad/Unreliable, 5 Being Great/Reliable]

February 27 (7 years ago)
I am getting very sick of DM's and GM's suddenly ditching their players. Whether they get cold feet, are idea stealers, or trolls, these users need to be taught that this isn't healthy. I've had time after time, DMs tell us to make ideas for our characters, which we post them, and then tells us to make characters for them, and we do so, only to then suddenly leave, take all our ideas, close the game down, and just vanish. I'm also tired of unreliable DMs who never make it to games when everyone else is there with no excuse, and never returns. I've also had it up to here with DMs who pitch their idea, welcome us into that idea, and then suddenly leave in the middle of the night when the game is already set in stone.

There needs to be a rating system (Which only Plus and Pro users can post, to prevent Free Users from creating false names and posting false reviews), of a 1 to 5 star system, with a 300 words or less report on that user, which is then posted on their profile, to either welcome players into feeling that that user is genuine, or if that user is a total scumbag. 1 being worst, 5 being best. This really should get done because there's a lot of toxicity in roll20 and users should be warned as to what they're getting themselves into with users.
A rating idea would be something worth while to have.  I have met many folks, most good and a few not so good.  This include both players and DMs.  Hope this idea gets considered.

+1 to this!  I'm sick of players ditching last minute, or not showing up at all.  It'd also be good to weed out the toxic powergamers from the people who showed up to contribute to the story.

Is it possible that this is more of an organized play issue than a roll20 issue? Or are there really that many people here who non-organized-play pickup games all the time?

Because if it is something mostly affecting organized play games then this rating system should probably better be handled by the respective campaign organizers.

It is a roll20 issue because there's a huge amount of users on this system and so far, there's been a lot of people doing this. The users should have the right to know if a user is unreliable or toxic. Though to prevent a mass of false reviews, only those with Plus and Pro accounts should be allowed to vote [Though you can vote on free users].

This idea has been brought up on the regular, and rarely gets more than a handful of votes.

It's far too easy to game it to make you sound like a stellar GM when you aren't, and far too easy for people to bomb your rating. Additionally, with the disparity between the numbers of GMs and players, if you didn't have a "good" rating, or if you had no rating at all, it would be unlikely that you'd ever get to play. Thus, new players would always be left out in the cold, and one strike by a troll GM would also screw you.

Allowing people to ascribe a rating to other people is not something we really want on Roll20, even though I understand why it would be useful to weed out toxicity in peer-driven games like tabletop. We don't foresee this feature being on our radar for a long time, at least until we can figure out the ethical implications of it. This type of feature can and has been very easily abused before.

On toxic users though, that is why I'm here, along with our dev and mod team. We absolutely want to weed out toxic users and abusive users but rating is not the way to do that. Reporting toxic behavior is. Please report any users that violate our code of conduct and if you don't see a report button on the relevant interaction, please email us at team@roll20.net

I hope you understand our firm stance on this. I'll be closing this thread and releasing your votes.
