Would like to run a game based on Adventures on the High Seas 2nd Ed fantasy. Concept: -Players would all be either the children or representatives of a Byzantium Empire noble family that has been exiled to the mainland. -Each player will represent a different family and be the captain of their own ship traveling together as an armada/fleet. -This will be an alternate history (or possibly the untold true story?) of the Palladium Voyage found on pg 91 Adventures on the High Seas 2nd Ed. -The mission and common goal for all of the players from the start will be to successfully circumnavigate and map the continent while procuring as many exotic goods and establishing as many trade agreements as possible to help their family buy back its noble title. -However, how they decide to do this is completely up to the group and they will not be railroaded into following any set path. -I would like balancing ship supplies and trade goods to be a challenging aspect of the game for the players to have choose between, but I don't want to spend entire sessions "shopping" every time the party stops at a port. I will have a Discord server set up for the campaign with a marketplace bot that will be updated for each port. Players can manage their stores during the week between sessions. -Each player will also have a Quartermaster/2nd Mate character that they will roll up and that characters skills will determine their discount for haggling/bartering in the shop, bonuses to ship combat and help with crew leadership, intel-gathering and a number of other aspects of the game. I will probably come up with a custom skill system for the quarter masters where players can allocate a number of skill points into the above catagories giving them bonuses on related rolls. -Most of the ship time will be fast forwarded through, besides random encounters and any interesting events, and the merchant aspect will be handled out of game, so sessions should primarily be the captains "adventuring" together to find valuable loot, helping to solve local problems as ambassadors of the Byzantium Empire, gaining valuable intelligence on the foreign powers and little known places of the world and your usual fantasy fun. I will allow each Captain to bring along a crewman while adventuring but every meat shield you lose is one less hand on deck. You will occasionally be able to hire some new crewmen, but not many npcs(or at least not the kind you want on your ship) will want to join up with a ship that will never return to their home port. Well that was much longer than I intended it to be :) If your interested let me know
