The Player "Problem"

If this is an inappropriate place for this sorry, please let me know where the appropriate place to discuss this topic is.  So, I used roll20 a couple of years ago, and overall the experience was pretty positive. However coming back fairly recently and starting up a couple of campaigns of my own, I have noticed something. If you are a GM (which I am) then life here is pretty good. But it seems nowadays if you are a player, or a GM who wants to play in a game once in a while to add variety, this website seems to be a nightmare. I know it doesn't really make that much sense to complain as there isn't really a better option out there and something is better than nothing. But seriously, how is someone supposed to actually find a game on here? The problem is only compounded when you aren't really a fan of a ton of homebrew. I DM a couple of games on here but for the life of me all I want is to be a player in a Paizo Adventure Path. This seems nonexistent now, or for every GM of an AP there are 30+ players applying. A tempting answer when a player complains there are too many players and not enough GMs is "well, why don't you GM a game", but this doesn't really apply to me. I honestly don't know what to do.
The Game Finder needs a major revamp, for starters.  So many stale listings that DMs forget to take down and players keep re-applying each week thinking they're active listings...  There's not a good way to quickly find "new" listings.  While the "around X time" feature is helpful, it would be nice if we could specify a range of time instead. With official Pathfinder support coming soon, you may find more APs and stuff being run here in the future.  Now it seems to be either a lot of homebrew or the same few published modules available for Roll20.  Which are nice modules, don't get me wrong.  They look brilliant and everything you need for the gaming on Roll20 is included, but I'd venture to say 1/3 of the listings at the moment are for the same 3 modules...
I am cautiously optimistic about the Roll20 Pathfinder support. I wonder if they are going to convert old APs as well. One of my DM games is for Crownfall on release, and it filled up in a few hours.
I'd also like to point out that in-person games are just as difficult to find reliable groups as a player, if not more so, given anyone's particular location.  There's always been a ridiculously huge disparity between players and GM's.  When a game gets posted there's a mad scramble and they usually fill up quite quickly.  This is especially the case for Adventure Paths, as it's extraordinarily rare for a group to stay strong over a year + campaign. The best thing you can do is be patient, get to know people as you can, and do your best to maintain a group of core players that you get along with.  ex: I have something like 5 or so games a week, 1 of which I GM,  Plus one-shots. Finding reliable players is super-simple for our group because, of the dozen or two of us, there's usually someone interested in running or playing a game.  It took a good year to build those relationships though, so you really need to be patient.
