[LFP][Hackmaster 5th] Friday Nights 7:30pm CST Dark Fantasy/Horror

About Hackmaster: HackMaster differs from other RPGs mainly due to its focus on the journey to heroism. In HackMaster, characters begin play only a little more experienced than the average folk. The draw of the game is to overcome difficult challenges as novice adventurers on the path to fame, fortune, and everything in between. Thus, HackMaster is a game of hardship, and its revolutionary combat system is no exception. Because of the mechanic of “penetrating” dice, no outcome is guaranteed, and a losing battle could easily become a winning one (and vice versa)! HackMaster plays like an old-school game with crunchy rules, but during play you will see how well the system flows and works. About the Game: The game theme is dark fantasy and horror. The majority of the NPCs and monsters you interact with will have gray morality (if they are not outright evil). You will deal with all manner of deplorable politicians, ruthless mercenaries, homicidal cultists, and abominable monsters. In true HackMaster fashion, the party will be all the players have on their side. Because of the theme, I want the game to focus more on serious roleplay. I don't mean that you have to hide your jokes and quips, I just meant that I want the game itself to be taken seriously. Campaign is intended to carry the PCs into the double-digits in terms of leveling and length. The entire campaign isn't actually written yet so I don't have a concrete number to give you. I estimate that the campaign may take the players anywhere from level 12 to 20. Currently, the party is level 3 and you will create a new PC at this level to join them. The setting is good ol' KoK, but obviously there's some homebrew in the works. Tiriad is a kingdom often considered taboo to talk about. It's in self-imposed exile that started centuries and centuries ago for a reason nobody remembers. While nobody's barred from entering or leaving it exactly, it's still sort of an unspoken rule. Everybody believes the kingdom of Tiriad is cursed, and those who travel to it either never come back or they return a shell of their former self, haunted by something dire. Whether you are superstitious or not, Tiriad is definitely not a place you've wanted to travel to. But, of course, we're going there eventually. Game Flavor Text: There's something strange in the air these days. Not a smell, or a taste. It's just a feeling. A feeling of time running out; a feeling that the end of days is coming. It's not just you, but the rest of the world feels it. Over the course of months, a strange sort of shadow fell over Tellene. Across every kingdom it seems a dark cloud is forming. Crops are dying, humanoids are raiding more frequently, and even the dead are rumored to be roaming the wildlands. Nobody truly knows where it comes from, but they all point to Tiriad. That kingdom that has been in self-imposed exile for thousands of years, and has been at the blame of any unfortunate event on Tellene. That wretched land believed to be cursed for eternity by a long-forgotten evil. The name itself produces chills on the spine of anybody who dare speak it, and in these decaying times it is uttered often in superstitious gossip. Indeed its name is taboo, and its legacy rightfully feared. For those who travel to Tiriad are destined to never come back. But to you, what does it matter? Down on your luck and employed by a dying guild of adventurers, you lazily wait in a small city nearby the edge of Cosdol. Alas, your life as an adventurer is growing dull as it is harder for your guild to secure work in these dark days. Whatever purpose you've left your past life for is hardly driving you forward, and soon you'll be without enough silver to feed yourself let alone find a bed to sleep in. Times are becoming more desperate, and you can feel it not just in your bones or your starving bellies, but in the winds themselves. The world is growing darker, colder, and more dangerous. Soon you may even believe the gossip of this strange "curse." But you drink your time away in a seedy little bar at the edge of Cosdol, hoping for a job to come bursting through the door by the end of the night.
