Champions Hero System GM looking for help before starting a campaign...

Hey y'all- I've been playing RPGs 30+ years and am digging out some of my favorites, rather than jumping into DMing another d20 game (which I'll have to do eventually, I realize...). Instead, I've dug out my old Hero System 5th edition and am fondly remembering playing it years (decades?) ago. Anyways, here's the issue: I'm re-reading the rules, but I'm rusty beyond playability. What I'm looking for is some 5th edition Hero System players who already know the system to help me knock the rust off and rehone my skills with this system. I'm not looking for players (new or experienced) just yet for a campaign. I'm looking for players who know the system and are willing/able to help me get back in the groove with mock combats and other situations and who are patient enough to let me take time to wade through the wonderful intricacies of the system again while we play. I'm looking for some "practice dummies" or, perhaps, more affectionalely, "sparring partners." If you know the system and think you can help me out, hit me up and we'll set up a time to try it out on here. If anyone's running a Hero System game and is willing to let me sit back and silently observe, I'd love the chance to be a fly on the wall. Thanks in advance-

While I've played hero a bit, and it isn't that hard in principle, in execution it is. Personal wiring though, I suppose. If it clicked w/you, fair enough. Hopefully the included freebie links help. Out.
I'll spar with you what kind of power level where you thinking of sparing with?
Hm. I'm customizing the points a little (not changing powers, just what points you get). Assume a standard low level superhero setting (150 base/100 build from disads, etc.). That's not exactly what I'm looking to do for the campaign, which is 125/125, with a 40pt gadget pool & ship/base buy in required and 60 pts of disads already done (so a 210/65 build?). I'm cool with just standard supes on a 250 base, traditional style-- I'm just looking to run game mechanics at the moment and so any build is fine for that.
Oooh . . . .lemme know when you get your campaign up please? My Hero's book had to be duct taped back together, but even so I gave it away about a decade ago. I'm no longer familiar enough w/ the rules to help out like you need right now.
So looking at what for active point cap ,50 pts?
Max Disad from a category is 50 (though 40 seems like what I'll do for campaign)-- and 75 max active points in one power or ability... Low-Powered Superhero build guidelines, pg 15 of 5th edition Hero System, though campaign will be more of a VP Hero campaign...
so egg shells with big fricken hammers
Not sure what you mean, though I get the image well enough. Build a 250pt Superhero, with 150base/100 Disad, and build what you'd like. That's about where I want to pace things to start and you can do whatever you want. I just need to practice running some combats against players who will do more than punch. Robert/Beast, Ty M., since y'all are the only 2 to even respond with any interest in playing, I'm gonna hit y'all with invites to the (hopefully eventual) campaign and we can try to start working through arranging some meetings and working on some of the stuff I need to practice with. I think it'll be easier to chat in the campaign forums than here...and you can see what I've got started....
75 pts active is a is a big hammer in a 250pt game 5d6Killing attack or 15d6 normal vs characters with 20 def w/ 10 def resistant(egg shells)
True that. I'm going to have to see how that plays out. May cap it at 60, but that's still a big hammer. The gadget pool I'm including will allow for some ways to get better Def. Okay, looks like we're getting started in earnest, so I'm bumping this page up for players interested in playing as well (in the hopes of getting character creation rolling).
