Hello I am the game Master for this game, which uses One Ring RPG by cubicle 7, Roll 20, PLUS SKYPE for voice Chat. I have: - All of the RPG books for the One Ring RPG - Other source books from the old Middle Earth RPG by Iron Crown Enterpises - The Hobbit, Unfinished Tales, the Silmarillion, and the Fellowship, Two Towers and Return of the King. We are looking for people who are seeking a narrative role-play experience. More than "swing, hit, hit points." How does it work? What is "Narrative" Roleplay? You describe in detail what your character tries to do, then roll for it and then narrate the results for good or ill. It's like reading a sentence in a novel. Each character action is a sentence. But all of the players cooperate to write it. Logen the Hobbit encounters a merchant, selling swords. "I try my best to haggle with the obviously bored merchant, but seeing that the man has not sold anything all day, I have an advantage and try to play that angle. Logen is 'Patient' and can talk the Merchant's ear off for hours if need be." [Then rolls the dice]. Depending on success or failure the player will describe the result or let the GM do it. When is this game played? Saturdays, 4 PM EST US Until the players decide to call it a night as a group or the first player has to go. We do not play on after someone has to go. It is a fellowship. Each player character is critical. What If I can't make it to a scenario? Real life intervenes. In that case notify the Gamemaster, and it's not a problem. I am just new to roleplaying, and Roll 20. I came here to find a D&D Game. It does not matter if you are new to roleplaying, or have never played a game on role 20. We can show you how. Really. WE ENJOY Patiently teaching new players. There are lots of D&D games out there. This is something different. Not better , but many like and come to embrace the more in-depth actions of each character as each player narrates their own character's actions . But isn't this D&D with Hobbits? It is a roleplaying game. But it is a very specifically designed game to evoke the flavor of the LotR books and movies. It is definitely not D&D. The most important things on your sheet are your personality tags, and skills. There are no Attributes like Strength, or Intelligence, at least not in the traditional fashion that you might be used to. I have never read any of the books. I like Lord of the rings, but I am not a scholar. All that really matters is that you want to experience adventurers as a character in the Lord of the Rings setting. If you know the difference between a dwarf and a hobbit and know even a little bit about the setting, but want a rich experience INSIDE that setting, this is the place to make that happen. What kind of Characters are possible? We have Elves like Legolas, and Arwen. Dwarves like Gimli, Hobbits like Frodo and Bilbo, Men of Gondor like Boromir and Farmir, And Dunedain like Aragorn. Or something different that you come up with. Yeah. I don't want to be Boromir, or Gimli. In these One Ring RPG Narrative Scenarios YOU are the hero, the fellowship are those characters with you. We already know what happened in the Hobbit, and the Peter Jackson Movies. How is this different? The timeline starts 12 years after the Hobbit, and will advance roughly one year or so per two scenarios on average to a time 50 years in the future, the War of the Ring. We adventure generally in and around Mirkwood, East of the Misty Mountains. This period and place is barely touched upon in the Lord of the Rings literature freeing up the players to experience a half century of the rise of Shadow prior to the War. Their stories are no less epic, their adventures no less dangerous. Can my character die? It seems like a lot of work only to be able to be killed off! As in many roleplaying games there is a chance of characters dying. There is no raise dead, nor resurrection like D&D has. But the game designers felt that there must be a chance of character death, to keep it exciting. Characters can die, but it is also possible through specific tactics in combat, and through help from other player characters to avoid damage or death. Do I have to do a voice accent on Skype? I'm not an actor! I just want to play. Not if you don't want to. Nobody is being graded on who has the better or worse accent or more flowery words. We do ask that you try as much as possible to keep in character, even if you do not have or use an accent for that character. Immersion is the key we are trying to achieve. This is Middle Earth, not walking down a modern street. The GM does accents, because he wants to. Other players can or not as they wish, as long as the play does not become filled with modern words and jargon, like "Dude, no way." "Yo, peep this elf-boy!" We are not grammar Nazis , but we're playing a narrative heavy game. What else do I need to know? The players form a Fellowship, and work together as a cooperative team. Journeying through the wilderness, and in battles both small and large they work together, relying on each other. Each has a job to do; be it a Wilderness Guide, A Scout, a Hunter, or a Lookout.
