Introduction to CnD’s West Marches CnD’s West Marches is a Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition West Marches style campaign. The year is 201 P.S. (Post Siege). Eastern Ordisia has been tamed and order has been restored to the South. The West, however, has yet to recover. For months an Orcish horde swept through the countryside of Western Ordisia, pillaging everything from towns to small camps at their leisure while the Ordisian regulars dealt with an undead threat far to the East. Upon reaching the southern coast the orcs were thrown back and scattered following the Siege of Portmidge. With much of Ordisia’s commerce and trade already centralized along the Eastern and Southern coasts, an entire region was torn apart and thrown to the wayside. Attempts to resettle the area have been futile. Vicious, feral beings have dug themselves in and fight tooth and nail against would-be settlers for each stretch of land. As the reconstruction of the East reaches its final decades the High Mage Lucas Starborne, under orders from the Lord of Portmidge, has put out the call for brave souls to resettle the West. An expedition was sent to the long-abandoned settlement of Quagmar to establish a foothold, and now adventurers embark on a journey that, for many, will be a one-way trip. Each week more arrive following rumors of gold, glory, prestige, and power. But there are others out there that would seek the same for themselves. Goblins, Undead, Orcs, and other factions that have yet to be discovered vie for control of the region. Wars are fought. Alliances are formed. Who will come out on top? The adventurers of Quagmar? Or perhaps someone… or something else? The foundation is set but the future remains unclear. Between the cadre of Dungeon Masters and the actions of the players, the setting is always evolving. Do you have what it takes to takes to continue breathing life into this world? What do you get? Homebrewed setting containing enough content to accommodate sessions and ease the pressure of prep time and content generation. Access to a community of experienced DM’s and players to use as tools for generating, testing, or playing with new ideas, concepts, and content. West Marches platform that allows player-driven stories to help inspire new content and supplement the need for constant development. Player variety. Parties are decided on a per-session basis by the players, so you’ll be seeing a new set of faces each week. Appointed Game Officers comprised of senior players that help manage the community of players and provide assistance to DM’s as requested. What do we want? We ask that you run at least 1 session per week. Obviously things come up and everyone has a real life, but we expect that most weeks you’ll run a session. Sessions typically last for about 4 hours, though you’re free to do longer, and our prime times that we need to fill right now are weeknights between roughly 16:00 CT and 23:00 CT. If you have other availability feel free to continue with the application and you may still be accepted. Attend weekly DM meetings, especially if you’ve run a session. These typically only last an hour or so, and allow us to get together and provide updates to the world with each other, bounce ideas off one another, and maintain consistency. As of right now we do these on Sundays, but may flex between Saturdays and Sundays as needed. Add content to the world. We don’t have any strict requirements in this regard; we want all content to be good content and we don’t like to rush it. We do, however, expect that any DM’s using content will contribute it as well. Streaming sessions that you run. We’re trying to build a community of players, DM’s, and followers. We don’t expect you to put on a fancy made-for-streaming personality, but we would like all sessions to be available on our Twitch channel. You’ll be broadcasting to your own personal Twitch, so you’ll get credit for any views on your sessions. You as a DM We’d like to stick to DM’s that are role-play oriented and appreciate working with others to build a good story. While we ask that you don’t pull any punches, Quagmar is supposed to be a rough place, we do ask that you avoid becoming adversarial with the players. You’re not the bad guy they’re fighting, you’re the world that they’re traveling through. Ideally we want you to have at least some DM/GM experience and/or experience with 5th Edition D&D. We’re willing to help with generating content or understanding / implementing mechanics & ideas - but we are predominantly looking for DM’s that can hit the ground running. Software Requirements Discord - Primary method of communication Roll20 Account. You do not have to be a subscriber, just have an account. Our games are run through Roll20 for maps / video, and Discord for voice. Reddit Account - no Karma or submission requirements. Google Account - used for collaboration on Drive. Microsoft Account and OneNote (included with Windows 10) OBS, Xsplit, or some other streaming software. How to Apply Fill out our DM Application , and be sure to include your contact information in the final section. We will reach out to you via Discord and let you know whether or not your application has been accepted. Following acceptance of your application we’ll have an in-Discord “interview.” During that we’ll set up a pair of play-tests so that we can field you to our players. The first play-test will be a one-shot of your choosing, preferably no longer than 4-5 hours long. Our DM’s and senior players will sit in on this play-test. The one-shot can be a homebrew you’ve created, a prewritten module from the DM’s Guild / Wizards, or anything else of your choosing. The second play-test will be a test session of the Westmarches style. We’ll give you all the documentation you need beforehand, as well as access to a test instance of the game in which you can drop a couple dungeons (or use our pregenerated ones) and generate a couple rumors to run the session. Again, the party will be comprised of our DM’s and senior players. We hope we’ve got your interest, and look forward to hearing from fellow DM’s that would like to join CND’s West Marches community. Thanks for taking the time to read our admittedly lengthy post !
