I am a part of a small group of people who take turns running one shots in 5th Edition (we have one guy that has also run a Mutants and Masterminds one-shot and a Star Wars EoE one-shot) so there are opportunities to play here and there just to "scratch the ttrpg itch" so to speak.  There is no commitment involved, you don't have to be super active, though we would prefer people who are around to chat outside of game and be up for trying new things like guns or a different game altogether if there's enough interest.  DM's that would want to play here and there or also be willing to run something in order to test homebrew or just simply be willing to run the occasional game are encouraged since we all sort of take turns doing different things and letting each other play.  New players are also more than welcome to join, we'd love to teach you a bit (Personally, I've only run a few sessions so I'm not an advanced DM). The only rules for joining is that you must be pleasant and easygoing.  We're just all looking to have a good time and play the occasional game when we have time. We all have busy schedules so there might not be a session for a month or so if it's around finals or something, but otherwise we do like to play when everyone is able and opening up the group and getting some more people involved might help with us being able to play or run more games. We use discord (voice only) for games and for chat outside of games.  We've been able to get to know each other and prefer people about our age (early 20's) and do not care about gender or anything else, just looking for some fun people. :) One person is in CST, one guy lives in the U.K. but the rest of us are in EST so we are pretty flexible about times. If you are interested, just let me know, we can talk, I can maybe answer some questions for you, and I can pm you the discord invite if you're still interested!

Ooh, one shots! This was exactly what I was hoping to find on the forums. I usually DM 5e games myself, and occasionally get the itch to run the odd one shot and test some ideas, so your group sounds pretty awesome. I'm in C.S.T, I'm 24, and I'm always looking to fill a player's seat without the commitment of a scheduled game. What time/ days do you normally play? What playstyles do you guys normally run? Heavy roleplaying or just encounters?
Recently we have been doing games mostly on Saturdays at about 8 EST, but like I said, we just sort of decide when we want to play, so we come up with a time a week or two out based on everyone's schedule and go from there. We like to have a balance of both roleplay and combat.  Some sessions might be more combat and encounter-driven, some might be more focused on the story of the one-shot (we've also done like a two or three session mini story before) so it can change from session to session depending on which one of us is running it and what all the party prefers for that session. For instance, I am running a game tonight about vampires, and since they wanted guns in it and for it to be gothic/victorian and none of us have implemented guns in a dnd game before, we definitely want to be able to have enough combat to use that and, obviously, fight the vampires but at the same time I'm setting it up so that there will at least be enough roleplay and such so that it's not the 1970's dnd where "You're in front of a castle, what you do you".  Otherwise I don't expect this to be too much roleplay heavy just because of how I've written it up, but our group likes to roleplay here and there so in the middle of exploring a cave you might have the opportunity at least to throw a few side remarks at the party member who critical failed with her bow and shot you 5 feet away right in the foot in the last encounter.
