Advanced Fog of War - suggestion on using for open terrain (hills, plains, etc)

Hello everyone! I lack the imagination to use advanced fog of war on open terrain maps, like plains and hillside areas. I can make use of the feature in dungeons and caves, but I would be grateful for ideas and suggestions when it comes to larger, open field maps. Why? Characters have a limited "light" and if an NPC is not in that "light cone" the PC's won't see it and as such I am having an issue on how to control these kind of interactions. Regards!

You might get some ideas from this thread: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/3304165/dynamic-... For open areas, you might have to do something like hide encounters on the GM layer until PCs get close (I've heard of people using "It's a Trap" for this, but Bump is also pretty easy). If there are things that might block visibility, you could add DL for them (see the trees in the above link). You might have to get creative with particularly large maps. Depending on the situation, you could also set a fairly large sight radius with the same for dim radius and just turn off global illumination so that anything beyond "sight distance" is just not visible.
