Player Limits?

Is there a limit to how many people can play the game at one time? Currently i have 8 players and two dm's! I just have the basic package...

I've seen a GM that has the free account have 50 players. There are no limit on players. Subscription level specifics.

That said, the system is not designed for ridiculously huge numbers of players in a single campaign. Some people have created campaigns as "chat rooms," and been asked to stop because it screws up the server load or somesuch.

True but I was not going to say anything about that and let the mods mention that. He indicated he has about 8 to 10 willing players and just wanted to know if there would be any problem with that number so I answered it.

I think if you were to add any more users, I think you'd be unable to use Google Hangouts. Max number of people that can be in a Google Hangout at any time is ten. I'm not sure if there's a hard limit with WebRTC, though you might reach a critical mass with how many people display on screen. As for keeping text chat from collapsing into a neutron star, use inline rolls whenever possible, turn off dice images, and if you're really in a pinch - turn off character portraits. Also go into your campaign details and delete the chat log on a regular basis.
I've never used google hangout! I just wanted to know if the system can handle ten people? We use 3d dice and i just got a webcam for christmas just to use for roll20! I actually play D&D on this sysytem and i don't use it for a chat room! Lol that's what facebook is for!

lol. Just a headsup about the 3d dice. It does lag some depending on people's computer because it sucks up memory. They fixed it but it still is memory intensive on older computers.

WebRTC and Flash are the built-in video and voice chat in Roll20, but sometimes they don't play nice with everyone's webcam. That's what the Google Hangout option is for since it offers a stabler VOIP platform. The Chat Log records ALL dice rolls (even the ones rolled while using 3D dice). Have enough people in a campaign rolling lots of dice will start creating a pretty hefty chat log and eventually slow your campaign down if you don't manage it properly.
