Greetings. I'm looking for a group where I can contribute my character to an evolving story. I'm a fan of character development, and I like a mix of role playing with combat and puzzle solving. Give me the works, not just hack and slash! I'm available most nights after 7pm Central US time. The character I'm looking to contribute is : Villain, a tiefling fiend warlock. Backstory ( I know, it's a little long, but I put a lot of thought into it ): No one has ever trusted Villain. With infernal blood and an unfortunate name, he was often avoided. People would stop speaking when he was present and other children were forbidden to associate with him. His life wasn’t made any easier when his contemptuous mother did little more than feed him, so he was often left to his own devices. Used to the silence of others, he spent a lot of his free time at libraries trying to gain a better understanding of his infernal bloodline. Eventually, he would start learning minor cantrips on his own. It was his practice of magic that caught the attention of a local wizard who agreed to take him to study with a group of apprentices. Under the tutelage of the elven mage Kyrios Daskalos, Villain quickly became friends with the other students, but he grew a strong friendship with two in particular: his best friend Marius Fabian and Amaya, a beautiful half-elf studying enchantments, who—at first—was repulsed by Villain’s devilish appearance, but eventually won over by his charm. Amaya and Villain eventually fell in love with each other. Marius, while just as promising as Villain, disappointed Kyrios often. His was a desire for power, and he had little patience for Kyrios’s methodically slow instruction. He began searching for tomes of darker magic. Using the divination magic of another student, Khalid, Marius managed to track down a tome called the Ritualia Infernalis, a volume of magic regarding fiends and devils. Keeping the tome hidden from Kyrios, Marius and Khalid began studying the book vigorously and found a power spell that involved the summoning of a devil. The two began recruiting other students and set in motion a plan to summon a devil to gain true power. Given respite from their studies one evening, Marius lured Villain to a rundown shack in a nearby town under the pretense of showing him a new illusion. Upon entering the shack, Villain blacked out. He woke up, pain in his left side and his head ringing; a voice screaming in his head. What is this?! What have you done?! The smell of acrid smoke burned his nostrils. When he could open his eyes, he saw the bodies of several students, arranged in a circle around him. The shack was on fire and it was quickly spreading. Amaya hung from shackles on a nearby wall. He went to remove her from the chains, but the flames were rising quickly. Dead , the voice chuckled in his head. She’s dead. “Who’s there?” Villain spun to face whatever may be behind him, and saw Marius standing in the doorway. “What happened?” Marius said nothing as his gaze went to the tome on the floor near Villain. Incompetent , the voice mocked. Villain realized the voice was in his head. He looked from the book to Marius. “What did you do?!” Marius again said nothing, but instead moved towards the book. Villain went to stop him, but as he raised his hands, a blast of energy bolted from his hands, hitting Marius in the chest and knocking him over. Yes. Show him true power. Marius scrambled to his feet and cast a spell of his own as fire leapt from his hands and consumed Villain. He felt the pain, but it wasn’t what he expected. When Marius spell faded, Villain scowled at his former friend. Marius’s expression changed from anger to awe. The fire should have killed Villain, but it only seemed to affect the tiefling’s clothes. Villain removed the burning clothes and stood before his friend. He charged at Marius, but the other mage quickly vanished. Villain turned his attention to Amaya. He walked through the growing flames and tried to remove the shackles, but they wouldn’t budge. He looked around for a key, but the flames were burning hotter, blurring his vision. Useless. “Who are you?” The book. He quickly grabbed the book. When he got to the doorway, he turned to look back at Amaya one last time. The flames had finally taken her. Filled with rage as hot as the fire, he sped back to Kyrios’s school. When he arrived, he stood naked before his teacher, Marius and Khalid. The two students told Kyrios that Villain had stolen the book, intent on becoming the devil—the villain—he was born to be. They claimed they witnessed Villain sacrifice Amaya in return for power. Kyrios was reluctant to believe them and allowed Villain to protest his innocence. Kyrios demanded to see the book. Villain tried to hand it over, but again, magical energy burst from his hands, striking Kyrios and knocking him back. The elder wizard trusted Villain and wasn’t prepared for such a blow. Being pushed back, he tripped and struck his head against a table, knocking him unconscious. Villain went to tend to his teacher, but Marius and Khalid were quick to act. They began casting, aiming to get the book from Villain, even if it meant his life. The voice in his head began giving him instruction on how to cast spells. Villain, surging with adrenaline, was quick to learn. He began blasting at the two, defending as best as he could until he got close to them. He raised both his hands, thumbs placed together and spoke an infernal incantation. Fire burst from his hands. Marius and Khalid were able to dodge the flames, but in his carelessness, he set fire to Kyrios’s school. His nemeses smiled at each other. It’s what they wanted. Khalid… Villain would never be able to prove his innocence. “How do I put it out?” He plead with the voice. Too late. “You’ll be destroyed for this, Villain!” Marius taunted. Villain looked for anything to put the fire out. Too late! “I have to stop this!” The incompetent one is right. We’ll be destroyed. “We?” Flee! Villain felt energy surge into his legs. He fled from the school into the nearby town. The shack fire had been discovered. Villain, naked, was careful to stay out of sight, but overheard he townspeople clamoring about a cult in the village. Someone recognized the robes of the students, and the people began suspecting Kyrios of harboring this cult. Villain wanted to stop them, but knew they’d hang him if he told them the truth. He snuck around the village and found some clothes and daggers. He donned the clothes and stole a horse from a stable, riding as far away from the town as the horse could carry him. During the ride, he spoke with the voice, who would not tell him a name, only that he was now a part of Villain’s essence. He explained Marius’s plan to summon a devil to bargain for more power. However, the spell called for the blood of a fiend. He mistaken believed that Villain’s blood was fiend blood. Instead, the small amount of devil in his tiefling blood caused the spell to go awry. Instead of summoning a devil, Marius fused the essence of a devil with Villain’s, giving him the power he now controlled. The devil promised to teach Villain how to use his power as he saw fit. Not to corrupt Villain (for now), rather to survive. It is an uneasy relationship the two have with one another. Villain adventures out of necessity now, traveling from village to village earning coin any way he can. During his travels, he learned that a paladin order called the Silver Eye, led by a woman named Aurelia, now hunts him on Marius’s behest. Marius has taken control of Kyrios’s school. He offered the elder wizard up to the townspeople, telling them that he and Khalid were held at the school against their will because they would not join the cult. They stated that the cult worshipped Villain, and, until he is captured, no one is safe. Aurelia and the Silver Eye believe that he is, in fact, a true devil free from the Nine Hells and roaming the mortal plane. Villain vows to avenge the deaths of Amaya and Kyrios and to clear his name with the Silver Eye.
