It happened quickly. Quicker than even
the most alarmist prognosticators. The cold swept in like a tidal
wave and nobody was ready for it.
You and a hundred or so others have
spent the last several months constructing Vesta - a massive coal-fired
heater. A few of these devices were ordered constructed as
experiments against the cold, but then everything went to shit and
now you and the others call this one home, clinging to its life-sustaining warmth,
at least for now. At least until you can find something better.
Civilization was only a few hours' drive away, but now the land is
blanketed in white, masking everything under snow and ice, and even
if you could make the trek, would anyone be alive? Wouldn't you have
heard from them by now?
This is about the lives of these
characters as they try to make it thought the apocalypse and what
they're willing to do to get by. PCs start as inhabitants of this
community. Them and a hundred others will all have had a working relationship together
building the massive heater, but that project is in the past and now
they'll be butting heads over how the community is run.
Mondays EST evenings (some flex in the

I'm starting with the setting from
Frostpunk, a PC game by the makers of This War of Mine.
I don't intend to follow the PC game, just use the setting as a
jumping off point. Where we go from there will largely be determined
by the PCs and what they care about. It'll be
1950s-ish tech, but impacted by the frozen apocalypse. No experience
with the system (Apocalypse World) or PC game is required - in fact, a
lack of experience with the PC game might be preferred to avoid
recycling material.
For those unfamiliar with Apocalypse
World, it's a narrative-focused game with fairly light rules. It's not about adventuring
parties, quests, or combat; there are no turn-based grid battles,
nor orcs that need killing. There are humans, and humans can
sometimes be shitty at each other, but rarely will that result in
fights to the death. The game is about people, some friendly, some
shitty, all of them interesting, and how you deal with them.
