Promises of Grim Deeds to Come The year is 1934, and in the United States the Great Depression is in full swing. On October 1st, a group of people arrive at an airplane hangar in upstate New York at the invitation of a wealthy and mysterious benefactor, one Janet Rogers, nee Winston. The mystery grows as this collection of people brought together come from various walks of life, with different fields of expertise, all come at the personal expense of their benefactor for reasons unknown. The only thing they were told was that the compensation would be significant, and in a time when the grasping claws of poverty begin to strangle all but the most fabulously wealthy individuals, none can afford to turn down such an opportunity. Yet dark rumors surround Janet Rogers, an heiress who lives at the benefit of her father's estate, one Walter Winston. The circumstances of his death are wildly speculated on, and the sizable fortune transferred to his daughter's care raised more than one question of foul play. Now those who've come at her invitation are faced with a looming engima: what could she possibly want? Is the nature of her request even legal, and if it is, why the cloak and dagger? But these are inconvenient questions for an inconvenient time, and when the reward is so promising, even cooler heads look the other way. Still, high rewards always mean high stakes, and in the end, the final tally could be so much more than money. You begin your journey as one of these select individuals. Who are you? Are you an old veteran of the Great War? Are you a slick con-man looking for his next big-time job? Are you a beat-cop, a reporter, an author, a psychologist, a scientist, a nurse, a private investigator, or a priest? Are you simply someone connected to the Winstons, looking in on old family friends? Who are you and why are you there? And more importantly, could you even imagine what awaits you? Enter a World of Cosmic Horror Welcome to Eternal Lies, an epic Trail of Cthulhu campaign where the players portray investigators in a dark and dangerous story inspired by the enduring works of fictional horror by HP Lovecraft. This tale of mystery and peril spans the globe, and indeed, may cost several characters their sanity or their lives. A true horror movie come to life in which the players are the central characters of an unfolding plot, Eternal Lies is a tale of human drama and dangers entangled with escalating stakes that threaten to change or end lives of both enemies and beloved friends. Whether the players become selfish or selfless, mad with power or plagued by fear, ambitious heroes or driven everybodies, the central theme of Eternal Lies is one of the human spirit in the face of nihilistic doom. Volatile and arcane powers beyond their understanding lurk in the shadows, and if the investigators don't confront them, who will? And, even if in the end there was never any hope and we were always doomed, does that mean we're simply going to lay down and die? These are the questions asked by Eternal Lies and, to a larger extent, the Trail of Cthulhu game. Players new to the GUMSHOE system are welcome, as I myself am new to Trail of Cthulhu. Veterans are also welcome, but I would very much (in the strongest terms possible) like players to join the group who are not familiar with the book "Eternal Lies" released by Pelgrane Press. Players who are spoiled on the details of the story simply won't have as good a time in the game, and I won't have as good a time running them. Above all we're looking for immersive, mature and respectful role-players who are interested in a game that demands critical thinking. The protagonists of the story are ordinary people - they don't have enchanted shields or magic spells to protect them from the horrors they confront. They are people with families, occupations and things to lose. Knowledge of the game system isn't a necessity in order to join, materials will be provided to players who need them. What is necessary is that you are a role-player who really brings a character to the table that serves as a compelling protagonist in this epic (and I do not use that word lightly) story of cosmic horror. Of course, fluency in English is a requirement and the scheduled time for the game is not flexible. If you're interested in joining the group for participation, please continue to the game listing below and post in the app thread. Questions can be directed to the appropriate thread as well, I'll try to answer them as promptly as I am able. Thanks for considering us, and happy gaming. Disclaimer: Players must be 18 years of age or older to participate in this game. Even adults should use discretion when considering joining the group. This game is not for everyone. If Eternal Lies was a movie it would have a hard R-rating. This game deals with hardcore, unblinking elements of horror of both a human and inhuman nature, and you will not be spared the ugly details. You've been warned. Apply to Eternal Lies Here
Are you still looking for players?
