Building Maps Without campaign?

Is there any function where you can build an store maps without the need to start a campaign? i have future plans to be a DM after i played a character to better understand the game. but i would like to construct map's in the backround so that i have a library of them before i start up a game.
Nope. Gotta make a campaign.

I'd maybe suggest making the maps in some other application (like paint.net for example) and then exporting them as Jpegs for your art library. That way you'll have them as a GM in any campaign you choose to run.

You can make a campaign for just maps.... to put them together and store them... and then use the Transmogrifier to bring them over when they are needed.

I do something similar to this. I have a "template" campaign that is for development only. I create my maps, rollable tables, NPCs, everything first in the template campaign. Then I transmogrify them over to my "live" campaigns for actual gameplay. That way, I have an original of everything stored in the template campaign and it can be re-used later for a new game if I want. Meanwhile, the versions that get copied over to the live campaigns can be interracted with, modified, whatever through gameplay but I still have a copy of the original.
Hes not a mentor which is why I didn't suggest the Transmogrifier.
Hmm well i just started here and am not a person with money to spend so paying for the top tier just to be able to build and store maps isn't realy an option for me ATM. think it's odd that you can't build modules and maps outside of campaigns, personally i think it should be a feature even for free users since it would make it possible to build a complete library of detailed map's to make gameplay more fun.

You can also create a campaign, build your maps, and then copy the campaign and delete any maps you do not want from the copy.

I build my maps on my computer through the use of 3rd party software like photoshop, gimp (my preference), or other sources. I heard of a website (I think it is called pryomancer something) that allows you to build maps for dungeons then save them to your computer as jpegs. You can get various tiles and images to use in your photo software from places such as Dundjinni or Rpgmapshare. You could also just google for the tiles also.
Hmm im going look into those two alternatives, i have worked in photoshop quite a lot i just wondred if there was some way to avoid needing to upload Jpegs and build detailed and complete map's in roll20 and just be able to import them between campaigns with creatues an other information on it without needing to redo the whole thing. but well i have time ti figure out a solution since im going start up as a PC an learn the game first

To use the map in multiple campaigns, you would need to clone the campaign (mentioned above) or become a mentor level subscriber to use the transmogifier. This will happen no matter what as you expressed placing tokens on the map also and having them preconfigured. At this point I would recommend build and configure then copy/extend the campaign.

Fred, there are basically three options: 1) Create the maps outside of Roll20 by using an art program and then dropping it into Roll20 as a group of images when you are ready. 2) Create the maps in a Roll20 campaign, then when you want some of the maps, copy the campaign and delete the undesired maps from the copy. 3) Create the maps in a Roll20 campaign, create a different campaign, and use the Transmogrifier (Mentor feature) to copy specific elements such as maps, tokens, character sheets, etc.
