Hello! I’m Andrew and I’m looking for 4-5 players interested in playing in my homebrew campaign, The Free Cities of Astra. This will be a long term campaign that is expected to last anywhere from 40 sessions all the way to 75 and beyond, depending on player decisions. If you’re looking for a shorter time commitment the campaign divides easily into shorter arcs or modules that I expect to last 10-15 sessions on average, at which point you could drop in/out according to your schedule. This campaign is set to play weekly on Monday nights at 7 pm EST, with the first session being June 11th, (6/11). About the campaign: Welcome to Astra, the newly discovered lands that house the Free-Cities. Many folk have found their way to Astra, pioneers with a heart for discovery, criminals escaping punishment, simple folk trying to start life anew, and everyone in-between. The mainland of Crale has long been plagued by famine, disease, and deep-seated political conflict which left many open-minded towards exploration, leading to the discovery of Astra less than a century ago. Among other problems, the ancient conflict between the supremacist Hirene Empire and the proud Kingdom of Estos has torn strife through lands and families for centuries. But the long and treacherous journey across the Surging Sea is not one taken lightly, and many voyages have been cut short by improper planning or catastrophe. The lands of Astra hold secrets left behind by an ancient civilization, strange new creatures and threats, and plenty of work for any soul brave -and lucky- enough to make the journey. Many organizations of the Old World hold interest in the success of settlement in Astra, and even offer contracts to individuals and groups willing to carry their will to the New World. Though teetering on the brink of extermination, the citizens of the Astra have established three bastion cities. These cities offer a haven from the many dangers tucked away throughout Astra. One way or another you have completed the journey, and a foreign world ripe with mystery and potential now rests before you. Further, I wish I didn’t even have to clarify this but my games will always be LGBT friendly. About me & my DMing style I’ve been running D&D for five years now, and 5e exploded my interest and passion for the game. I formulate encounters and dungeons with the party composition in mind, and create puzzles and social engagements based on what my players have shown interest in. I love using professional battle-maps and tokens for both the players and monsters, as well as playing background music for whatever adventuring is currently happening (creepy dungeon crawl, action battle sequences, etc). I think 5e works best when you have a good mix of the three pillars of gameplay -- combat, skill challenges, and social situations/RP. So you can expect many different kinds of encounters to engage with. For dungeon crawls I like to use roll20’s dynamic lighting feature, but only if it adds to the experience. What you’re paying for The fee for my game is $5 per session, per player. What you’re paying for is a spot at the table, and a quality game that has had 4-8 hours of prep before each session. More than anything else you’re paying so that I can justify spending as much time as I do to make every session feel fleshed out and interesting, as well as the other miscellaneous expenses I face as a result of running D&D 5e on roll20. I also want to note what you’re not paying for. Paying for your seat at the table doesn’t entitle you to extra special treatment. I’m not going to pull any punches, or let you buy advantage on a roll or anything ridiculous like that. You have as much influence over the campaign as any player should, and of course I’m almost always willing to work out some homebrew ideas if that’s something you’re interested in. I want the expectation to be clearly defined as a consistently professional experience. If, after a session, you feel you've absolutely wasted your money and would like a refund I'll oblige - I'm not trying to screw anyone over. Final Mentions Firstly, if it wasn’t clear from the blurb about the campaign, Astra is very much a campaign about exploration and discovery. Please keep that in mind when gauging your interest and for character design. Secondly, new players are always welcome, so don’t be afraid to send me a message just because you haven’t played before. Thirdly, the only notable rule deviation we’ll be using is Milestone leveling, beyond that technology wise we'll be using Discord and Roll20 and you're required to at least have a microphone but a webcam is highly recommended, I'll most likely be using one and will invite everyone else to join in. And finally, this game will not include any erotic content, romance can happen and can be a theme of the game but will require lots of “fade to black” scenes.
