This is going to be a bit lengthy, and I apologize for that, but please read this before applying for this group to make sure it’s a good fit for you and you understand how to apply. This will be a D&D 5th Edition game run on Sunday nights from 8:15 eastern time until around midnight. The game will be weekly, but because things do happen in the real world and we have jobs and families, it is reasonable to assume we will game 4 out of every 5 Sundays (taking the off-week as the group’s needs require it.) Players are encouraged to use video, but voice is the only requirement. This game is free and always will be, as it should be. Starting characters will begin at level 4. This campaign will heavily focus on the story and the characters. There will be combat and exploration, but this is a story-focused, RP heavy campaign. Players pretty much have free reign to create whatever character they want. This is an LGBT+ friendly group. It is not an LGBT group, but we are all tolerant of each other regardless of orientation (or race, gender, nationality, etc.) Romantic encounters, should they happen, will be tailored to the preference of the individual player. The main takeaway here is that if you have hate in your heart, this probably isn’t the group for you. The campaign begins in the kingdom of Eradonia. Eradonia used to be a large, multi-racial kingdom with multiple cities, robust industries, a large army, and just about everything you can imagine for a grand fantasy kingdom. Eradonia had been troubled by orcs to the north for decades, but it was only in the last few years that the orcs have become massively organized and invaded the kingdom. One by one the cities and forts have fallen, and now only the southernmost port city remains (now known as Eradonia.) The city has become packed with people seeking safety behind the walls, and thousands of refugees have fled the kingdom by boat, seeking life outside of the doomed kingdom. The orc army has made it to Eradonia's walls, and the defenders prepare for what might be their last attempt at defense. Session 0 will start during that last desperate stand as the fate of Eradonia hangs in the balance. Before applying, please spend some time thinking about the exact character you want to make. You have nearly unlimited freedom in coming up with your character concept and background. If there are 5th edition rules for something you want to play (and you can provide a link for it if it's obscure) then it's fair game. While just about anything goes, your character concept and background story are part of your application, and we'll be looking for what feels right for this campaign. The background stories of the players will be an important part of the overall story of this campaign. When posting your application, please be sure to include the background story for your character. It doesn't need to be a publishable piece of writing, and I'm not going to fault anyone for spelling or grammar errors. It doesn’t need to be anything really long either, but for you wordy types that can be ok, within reason. I just want a well thought out character that has some depth to it. Characters will be starting at level 4, so they will have had some life/adventuring experience prior to the campaign starting. I want to know who the character is and what they've been doing with their lives so far. I also want to know what faults and flaws they have. Perfect heroes are boring, and it's the flaws of the characters and how those characters work with those flaws that makes a story interesting. Characters should have a defining tragic flaw, and it is highly encourage-able to come up with at least two more lesser flaws/quirks. When creating the backstory for your character, you have full creative license to create just about anything in the greater Eradonia kingdom to make your story work. Was your city destroyed by the orcs? Ok, you can name it and give it whatever flavor your character remembers for it. Did you character belong to a certain guild, temple, wizard school, knightly order, mercenary band, travelling circus, or criminal organization? All good. The possibilities are pretty much limitless, and the only limit is really the common sense that would apply for what a level 4 character could accomplish. Some things that come to mind that wouldn’t be permitted would be the King, the Queen, the crown prince, the princess, the high wizard, and the commander of the army. Fourth in line to the throne? Yep. One of the most famous performers in the kingdom? Sure. The head of an underground criminal organization? Ok. Some beggar from the street, a foreign mercenary, or a solitary druid forced to take refuge in the city when the orc horde invaded her wilderness? Yes, yes, and yes. Your character can be native to Eradonia or just unlucky enough to be in the city right now; you just need to know how and why your character got there. We won’t be using alignment. For the kind of player I’m looking for, alignment is more of a limitation on roleplaying than it’s helpful. Characters should be complex and flawed. For any classes that have alignment restrictions, just ignore the restriction and/or come up with a reason why it’s ok for your character to be that way. Any race and class is theoretically fine, but if it’s not in the standard books I may need a link to the information about it. For gods, we will be using any and all pantheons people want or need for their characters. Venus, Sune, and Calistria are all basically the same goddess, so whatever name or version you want for your deity is fine. If there is a deity from another system, game, or book that you really want, it’s most likely fair game as long as that deity can fit in with the rest of the other standard gods and goddesses. Once I have received the applications from interested players, I will pick the players and characters that I think will work best for the group (the other current member of our group will probably voice opinions too.) I will then use the backstories of the chosen characters to flesh out the main story of the campaign. When applying, please only submit one character. I know some of us have all kinds of wonderful ideas for characters, but please pick the one you want to play most, regardless of things like party composition. I don’t believe in a perfect party composition or require classes. At the start of the campaign all of the characters will be strangers to each other. So here’s what you should have in your application (you can apply either in the LFG forums or on the campaign’s application forum thread) : About the player: Tell us a little bit about you, where you are playing from, and anything else fun or possibly pertinent you want to share. About the character: Name, race, and class are a good start. Defining flaw and other flaws/quirks next. Traits, ideals, and bonds are also good. Then whatever backstory you have for your character. If you made it this far, thanks for reading all of that. https://app.roll20.net/lfg/listing/118429/the-tangled-braid
