(LFP) Monday 5E

Edited 1528467700
LFP for a weekly Monday evening 5E campaign. Discord and headset required (no video). My DM style is highlighted by the following: - Story-driven. It's not sandbox (takes too long), but has compelling plot hooks to get players into an overarching story campaign. - Memorable NPC's, and NPC villains. - Fast paced gaming. This is huge if you're sick and tired of listening to hardcore RP'ers blow your entire game session chatting about stupid things in the tavern while you twiddle your thumbs wondering when you actually get to do something. There is plenty of RP, but, in a way that keeps the flow moving steadily. - Epic combat. 60% game time approx, with graphic combat, on great tactical maps. Challenging encounters that will make you think carefully and pray the dice roll in your favor. - Old Skool classes and races: 5E PH Only!  (No, you don't need to be a hexblade/eidolon/triple-class octopus hybrid to have an interesting character ffs...) - Sparse starting gear, although loot & rewards scale well. - Faster leveling than normal, and we plan to go late-game (up to lv 20). - Beautiful maps (they look decent, not the lazy DM "theater of the mind" way) We're looking for "old skool" gamers, probably 40+ yrs old.  Yes, we're dinosaurs, we roll it old skool classic, which means basic classes and races in the PH.  We got a lot of interest from players running 3-4 other games per week that wanted to use our game as a guinea pig to try their new ideas.  No thanks!   We're going through a time-warp, back to 2E days, but not...  Yep, that's me typecasting, and I'm 100% OK doing it, as it's my game.  100% free as well, we don't believe in the transfer of money when it comes to enjoying our favorite hobby.  For the old-skool gamers, this is the game you desperately wanted to find, but couldn't, amid the sea of flaky DM's and game groups that don't spend the time to create a game worthy of your time (or ours).  PM please if interested, and tell me why you think you're a good fit.
Monday evening what specific time and time zone?
Sry about that - it's Mondays @ 8pm Eastern (3 hrs).
I might be interested. Would you be willing to play with an inexperienced 25 year old?
/Bump
I am very interested, Aussie gmt +10 so it would be about 10am for me. Male, 43, played D&D late 80's then AD&D early 90's. Sounds like exactly what I am looking for :) Playing  whichever version you are on (2e?) is great, happy with that, I prefer playing fighter types. I am happy to work on a character with whatever parameters you have (stat numbers, gold to buy stuff and which players handbook etc) and send it to you before game time if you want me to join, so I dont waste anyone's time. Thanks, have a great day :)
Hey Uriel, I'm male, 32 years old, and have played D&D since 3rd edition. (Also Pathfinder) I haven't had the chance to play D&D5e in about a year due to work. However, I've recently retired so that will no longer be an issue. In fact, now I'm good to play whatever time is good for you, and pretty much as often as the group can manage. I'm new to the roll20 app/website, but I'm sure I'll pick it up quick enough, and I'll be sure to watch some youtube videos and learn as much as possible before any gaming sessions. I also have Discord and a good headset so I won't be that guy no one can hear, and/or sounds like a mess of static. Honestly, a group of older players without a bunch of multi-class RP try-hards is EXACTLY the type of group I've been hoping to find. I'm willing to play pretty much any class, whatever role remains to be filled in the group really. Please feel free to send me a PM and let me know if there's anything else you'd like to know about me. I very much look forward to hearing back from you. Thanks.
This sounds great :)
This sounds great!  I started with D&D back in the late 2E and I've done a bit of 3.5. (Mostly in the Forgotten Realms setting).  I then fell out of the tabletop habit as those I ran with lost touch and/or moved on to other things.  Here are the pros and cons of the Cookie in your gamer roster.  It's true that I'm a bit rusty.  I've never been in the world you're talking about, and I'm new to D20.  This may make you wary, but do not fear!  I am in your time zone.  A long-running, good "old-fashioned" gaming group would be like a taste of home!  I'm a PC gamer of long standing as well, so a proper headset and Discord are already in my grasp.  I'm also a friendly sort so long as nobody yells at me. ;-)
Uriel, I really dig the passion you seem to put into running your game.  The fact that you know exactly what kind of game you want to run, in leiu of some GMs who, in an effort to placate their players, try to offer a game they are not interested in running, is refreshing. I am 40 year old player who cut his teeth in MUDs in the mid 80's but never played D&D until 5e thru roll20.net last year. Although, I lack the D&D experience that other applicants have, I am no stranger to fantasy games and novels. The type of character I prefer to play is the devout "tanky" cleric who uses his righteous shield to defend the weak. Please feel free to send me a link to your LFG post when you are able to put to paper your campaign premise. I can commit to perfect attendance to 8pm EST on Mondays, as long as we are able to keep sessions under 4 hours. Based on the description of your GM style, I am confident that I would fit right in.

Hey there!  I'm not 40+ but I feel the need to give it a shot anyway. I'm 28 and currently working a 9-5 job and spend my weekends spending time with my wife. I've managed to con her into letting me have my fun on the weekdays (preferably Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday) which makes D&D on here pretty difficult to arrange. I've been playing D&D 5E for a little over 2 years now and have experience DMing as well as playing and until today (this afternoon actually) I was playing with a somewhat consistent group of about 5 people. This afternoon we unceremoniously disbanded, which sucks, but life happens. So now I'm left looking for an interesting/mature/consistent experience on days that nobody seems to be offering these things. I'm a flexible player, I really enjoy making characters in my spare time, and I'm open to working with the group to decide my position in the party. I'm more than happy using the 5E PHB only, seems like a fun, vanilla way to play. If you can look past my relative youth, I'd be more than happy to discuss playing with your group in the future. Oh, also, my timezone is NDT which is not so common on here, but we manage.  I look forward to possibly hearing from you! Thanks for your time!
This game sounds exactly what I have been looking for I just hope me being 30 is ok lol... What time were you thinking about running this game on monday?
Greetings!  I'm interested in joining your campaign.  I've got lots of experience with various RPG's, both as a GM and a player.  I've had several recent experiences with "campaigns" petering out after a month or two, and am looking forward to gaming with persons who are committed to a campaign group.  I'm turning 38 this month (didn't quite make the age cut), have a steady job, and parenting commitments ending at 7pm CST.  Monday-Wednesday are the best nights for me.  I can start earlier on Wednesday, any time after 2pm.
Finally a PHB group! Good for you. I'm a 30 YO scientist from the PDT time zone. I recently joined Roll20 for my Friday pen and paper group at work and I'm DMing the starter set here. I'm looking for a Monday group where I can develop a character instead of multiple NPCs. Mondays are the most quiet days of the week for me. How many players are you looking for the table?
OK, we need just one more.  The group doesn't "need" any specific class, we have the bases covered.  Expanded criteria: - PM me what your most favourite, and least favourite classes are, and why.  - Bulletproof attendance, with desire to join a long term "group". - Not interested in people who play a handful of games per week and want to use my game as a guinea pig for a new character idea - we need your focus, and go in-depth in your character and the game. - Player's Handbook only - don't give two shitz about your homebrew character concept. - 40+, but will consider ppl in their 30's on a case by case basis. - PM me your discord details as well
