Dynamic Lighting and Zones

So here is a question for all you FATE players or anyone else who plays games with abstracted movement. How, if ever, have you employed dynamic lighting in these games? I haven't played around with the dynamic lighting much at all, but my players are coming up on a location that will be the perfect place to try it out. My issue is movement in the game we are playing doesn't apply to a grid or small rates of movement. Even cautious movement is one "area" (zone) to another. If we have to break it down, an Area is roughly 18 ft x18 ft. So I suspect I'm going to run into some issues with standard dynamic lighting. OTOH, I'm considering just breaking down the location zone by zone and compositing them piecemeal on the map. Then, as the players move from zone to zone, I'll just move them from the GM layer to the background layer, making them visible. This has some benefits as its a multi-level structure and I can drop floors as the players move between them. So what to do? What has worked, or not, in your games?

Bump.
Probably have to build everything on-screen and obscure with fog of war until you're ready to use it.
