Hey Roll20 community! I'm Distorted, the lead GM for Ruins of Wrath - a series of West Marches campaigns. After a full year of our first game, we're ready to start on a new adventure set in a dangerous, mysterious land where even the natural forces of the world can be a challenge to overcome, and group politics play an important role in progress. The setting is homebrew, but very new player friendly, and the opportunity to worldbuild and contribute to how the setting is shaped is important to us. Here's a little bit about it: More than fifty years have passed since the settlement of New Haldun first made landfall on the new continent. Trade is booming within the port city as the wealthy Trade Houses pull strings to extend their reach. Lawlessness within Haldun has been challenged by their iron rule, with the support of the Crown Prince and the Hand of the King. But as night falls, a more sinister force rears its head - Aether . The entire surface of the world was wrapped in it; a type of natural energy that all living beings influenced, and was sensitive to the psyche, bringing life to dreams, and manifesting fears . Many early settlers to the new continent, centuries ago, had learned of this new force, and while their civilization benefited greatly, they quickly learned that Aether was as malevolent and unforgiving as it was generous. It was only by a Great Sacrifice , the loss of all the technology and knowledge this precocious civilization had brought with them, that humanity came to terms with Aether, at least enough to learn a rudimentary level of control over its power. For hundreds of years the humanoid races managed to grow and expand, keeping an uneasy balance with the Aether. And while some organizations seek to find a way to free people from this force, others, like the the magocratical and powerful nation of Soros , have mastered ways of turning this enigmatic energy into an exhaustive study known as magic. Now, across the Merchant Sea, Soros sends their mages to establish an Embassy in the 50-year old New Haldun and help the Trade Houses expand into these ruins of an unseen wrath, perhaps finding a way to live in harmony not only with each other, but with this wild natural entropy that threatens to swallow all. ___ We've played with a ton of amazing people from the community over the year of our last adventure, and hope to meet and game with many more.
