Spectator Mode

Team, I am new here and I know you can spectate just by joining the game, but doesn't that give them full access to do anything a player can? I was thinking it might be something the GM can allow in his/her campaign, "Allow Spectators". When a person joins as a spectator all they can do is watch. No ability to chat or bother (maybe allow whisper to gm). I know this might be low priority, but with the amount of "new to roll20" posts and applications I see, It may help for better integration. Thanks, Chad

Great idea, it would also be a way for game alternates to be able to keep up with the game if they need to fill in
I doubt I would use this but I can see how this could be very good for some people. +1

I just want to say that we'd love to do this. However, the main problem is that the current video/voice chat solutions we have available (both the built-in Tokbox, the new WebRTC, and Google+ Hangouts) have strict limits on how many people can be in the "room" at one time and see the video/voice. And we just don't think it's worth the effort to make it available until we can get around that. Right now your best bet to broadcast to folks that aren't actually players is to use Live Streaming tools. There's a help doc on it here: http://help.roll20.net/misc-live-streaming/ That's probably going to be the only solution for a while, although there is some hope that Google+ Hangouts On Air will eventually have a way to broadcast the app as well, which would be stellar.
Riley, Thank you for your information and putting a better spectrum on the issues something like this would cause. Chad
