Greetings! This maybe a bit long but please stick with me! I'll try to be as concise as I can :D SKIPPABLE PERSONAL INFO SECTION Hi, thanks for taking the time to read this. I'm Barry, a 22-year old University Student from and living in England, proudly nerd yet woefully ignorant of pretty much most of the D&D culture. I never looked twice at MTG until about 3 months ago but I'm not big into it really, however this tabletop gaming has grown it's appeal to me greatly. I'd appreciate some guidance through this lark while I try to have some fun. I have Skype, but I don't think I have a camera, and even if I did I probably wouldn't be too keen on using it. While I have never used Google hangouts, I doubt it's that difficult, and am willing to give it a go. I have headphones and I'm not afraid to use them! MEATY PART OF THE POST As some of you may be aware, an internet personality named JP McDaniel has been streaming various tabletop game formats. (here's my inexperience in D&D showing) I don't really know exactly what system is used in the games I enjoy watching (and therefore want to play). I know there's Adventure/Dungeon world, which I would be rather happy to join (it seemed rather simple to grasp, being heavily narrative based) and Dark Heresy (with a patient group I will do my best to learn quickly!) I'm baffled by the amount of D&D types though, I'm not sure what rulebooks I should get or wikis I should read through (obviously spending money isn't my first option, I'll check free stuff first - which is why I'd like a mentor!) :D Timezone: GMT Schedule: Pretty open, I have 1 full day and 2 half-days at Uni, I'm rather free during all the time I'm not at Uni, and would be happy in either series of single-session games or a couple of running themes. Group prefs: I would prefer smaller groups, I've seen some with like 20+ members on the group finder and that just seems ridiculous. I would not like to be overwhelmed at all. I'd probably be comfortable with 4 other players + GM. I'm happy to play with any people from other countries, as long as I only have to speak/understand English (mostly). I don't mind strong accents or perhaps less ... able ... English (I am studying to become an English teacher) as long as you don't mind being asked to repeat yourself (I also won't "correct" your mistakes or be a dick about them <3 (unless you actually ask me to point out mistakes) Theme preferences: Role or Roll, I'm happy with either. I prefer Sword&Shield/Magic types or settings, but Dark Heresy does guns quite well for me. I've never been that keen on steampunk but beggers can't be choosers! Help I need: Guidance on what rulebooks I would need, probably constant reminders of how to roll for what skillcheck/action during my first couple of sessions (of each D&D type). GM(s0 that are willing to take a couple minutes with me for character creation discussion if I struggle finding rulebook resources OR someone with handouts on various things I should know (probably a little advice with Roll20 too, but I watched that tutorial video) Skype name: the.one.and.only.tidus (don't judge me on that, I've had it many years and CBA making a new one) Anyway, thanks for reading, and I'm looking forward to hearing from you! If you read all of that, you certainly deserve a cookie. Maybe this website will store one on your PC for me :D P.S. I'm sure someone will eventually notice the games Steven chairs in JP's rollplay videos/streams are the ones I want to play. No, that is not a coincidence, he really sold me on those game types.
I'm going to sleep now, feel free to leave a message here, PM me or message me on skype if you want to get in touch, I'll be checking all 3 when I'm back to the land of the living You can probably also tell that i'm eager to start playing - so if a DM sees this and one of your members has drop out last minute ... I can read up on rules whilst others create characters :D
