Looking for 2-3 players interested in playing Eldariel, using D&D 3rd edition rules (or custom made rules depending on players' preferences and experience). Players need to be mature, open-minded, respectful, willing to roleplay and interested in a mix of action and intrigue. (New players and experienced players are both welcome) I am available to play on week nights only (tues/wed/thurs from 7pm to midnight or so). I am in the EST time zone (GMT -5). Expect games to range from 3 to 4 hours and happen every other week. I am an experienced DM (mostly for Vampire & DnD), but this will be my first game in English (French is my first language). Looking to go a bit out of my comfort zone with this game, but I don't expect it to be a problem (aside from my accent, my English is pretty good). The exact orientation of the campaign will be decided by the players preferences and the types of characters created. This could mean a "classic" adventurer style campaign, a military oriented campaign, a political oriented campaign or almost anything else, as long as you are expecting some action and intrigue mixed into it. I am comfortable playing with loose rules, as long as they serve the campaign and keep the game fun and dynamic. Imaginative spells and actions are welcome, as long and they don't unbalance the game or break the immersion. ----- Eldariel : A continent in turmoil. War has been raging in the East between the nations of Cereus and Jadir for over 2 decades without either side striking decisive victories. Hard times are still ahead and new recruits are being trained to take part in the next offensive. In the West, the first battle has begun between the military nation of Enesia and the scholarly nation of Vorina. The power hungry emperor Marcus of Enesia leads the assault, while his youngest son goes about purging the countryside of various cults. Dangers and opportunities abound in these times of war, for adventurers bold enough to seek them. ----- The different nations of the continent : -Enesia- Military nation, united under emperor Marcus and his 2 sons. They have been training soldiers for as long as the common folk can remember, and it seems that they now intend to make use of their army. Recent years have seen skirmishes on the borders, but it now seems that a full scale invasion is about to be launched. Magic is considered a threat to the emperor's reign and sorcerers are hunted relentlessly. The various cults in Enesia are also being eradicated, as no one should be worshiped but the emperor himself. -Vorina- A nation of scholars where knowledge is valued above all else. The King has been ill for many years and the young queen is mostly in charge of current affairs, although many nobles are not exactly happy with the situation. The nation of Vorina has troops ready to fight off the assault from their northern neighbor, but right now they stand alone against the forces of Enesia. Many cults and magic users stand to lose much and are certain to suffer should Vorina fall to their neighbor’s aggression. -Valaël- Geographical center of the continent, but also the trading center of the continent. Valaël is a relatively recent republic where commerce and politics rule everyday life. They have ties with most nations and stand neutral in the conflicts of the continent. They trade with all and prosper because of it, especially in times of needs and conflict. The nation is also home to many refugees fleeing Enesia. Most of them are believers, magic users or accused of being either. This makes Valaël a safe haven for all those persecuted elsewhere, even if the justice of the empire sometimes follow them across borders. -Cereus- A feudal nation, loosely united under the authority of King Maximo. They have been at war with their southern neighbor, the kingdom of Jadir, for over 2 decades. Both kingdoms have a deep hatred of each other, yet the exact cause of this seems lost in history. War breeds hatred, which in turn fuels the conflict, and this has been going on for long enough that the cause seems irrelevant now. -Jadir- A kingdom governed by an “elected” King. Here the throne is not inherited but rather won either through political machinations, alliances or outright military force. The current King Haidar is considered an honorable man by most, but has made many enemies both abroad and inside his own court. His grip on power is still solid and he never relents in fighting the kingdom of Cereus, which gains him much respect from the common people. -The Enlightened- Not a nation but rather individuals of unknown origins whose eyes burn as bright as the stars. Who they are and their purpose is unclear, but one thing seems certain : wherever they go, change seems to follow. Whether this is good or bad can never be predicted, but they are undoubtedly bringers of chaos and harmony. History has often been influenced by these rare and mysterious travelers, sometimes remade or unmade, yet their name remains unwritten and their deeds unrewarded. They are known to everyone and understood by no one.

I own the 3.0 books, so I will be using these as a base reference but, I am open to using 3.5 rules when the changes are beneficial to the game. (For example, I don't mind using the 3.5 char sheet with the modified skill names since they do seem a bit more logical). As far as I know, changes from 3.0 to 3.5 are somewhat minor, so it shouldn't be much of an issue anyway. That being said, I also plan on using a few modified rules and loose interpretation of some rules to benefit the storytelling element of the game as a whole and to make it more fun and dynamic (I really don't like arguing over rules, I prefer making sure that the game stays fun and that the action is driven by the players' creativity). Here is a couple elements that I do plan to change: Health, Damage and Armor Class will be significantly different, Magic could be more loosely interpreted, healing would be adjusted to fit the modified Health and damage system, etc. Ex: -Health Points will be the same for all characters (a mage and a warrior will have the same base HP), adjusted by constitution bonus and will not raise when players level-up. -Armor will not make it harder for an enemy to hit you, it will instead give a chance to lower the damage taken (or completely negate it depending on the situation) -Dex bonus to AC will be doubled to compensate for the drop in AC from armor -Magical healing is uncommon in Eldariel (although players are welcome to play characters with healing abilities, just know they will work a bit differently compared to D&D) -I am willing to allow a bit more flexibility in spells and spell effects for players who create characters with magic powers (this will be discussed on a case by case basis and ideas from players are very welcome on what they are interested in). If you have further questions, feel free to ask them here or in a PM and thanks for your interest :)

I have a group of four veteran players (myself included) who play in more heavy RP games (of which I DM one of) in the event you are interested in taking on us as a group. I can assure you that we would make the game interesting and exciting with flavorful characters and colorful RP. That being said, I would like to know more about your magic rules. Additionally, with your variant DR rule, would DR stack then? Otherwise, you severely hurt characters who naturally get DR. Moreover, are you nerfing casters then to compensate for their increased HP or what?

Hello Zerocaliber, I would have been interested in taking on you and your friends as a group, but I now have a few people interested already and I don't want to have too many players, so I will have to decline your offer. Thank you for your interest and good luck to you in your current and future games ;) As for your questions, I will answer them in case anyone else would also benefit from the answers : The damage resist would indeed stack from armors and magical/natural dmg resist. And I did not intend to nerf mages per say, although I will certainly consider the idea.
Understood. Best of luck to you.
I'd be interested in joining. I'm in GMT time zone but I work late so GMT-5 suits me perfectly. Is there anything you'd like me to answer to see if I'd fit with your group?
