Looking to find or start a group 5E

Update: Focus right now is on finding an experienced DM. Everyone who has commented to be a player will be contacted. It's great that there have been so many responses but unfortunately only so many people can join. The upside is that with so many interested it means that if there is anyone that turns out to be a bad fit for the group then we already have others interested. Players will be contacted soon to see who will be invited to final group and if any of those don't fit or can't meet the agreed upon schedule then all other interested parties will be contacted first. As of right now we are going to allow another day or 2 to find a DM and if none volunteer then I will take the role for the first campaign and until we find a suitable replacement. Hello, fellow adventurers I am a new player looking for a group to get a campaign started with. So far I have started one campaign as DM with some friends but most of them have so far been unable to player regularly and I want to be able to really invest in a game. I have the fundamentals down for the most part but there are some areas I may need some assistance with so if I end up joining a group I need one that is open to and willing to assist new players. I'm a quick learner so I won't be a hindrance, but if I have a question I don't want anyone to get frustrated. I am hoping that to find an experienced group to get some more experience as a player, but if that fails I am also interested in just getting together a group of new players to help each other learn. In this case I would still aim to have an experienced player DM, but will take on the task myself if necessary. I have a plus subscription to Roll20 and the Lost Mine of Phandelver module so getting started wouldn't be difficult. I'm open to all players as long as you are looking to have fun. Want to stick to rules but if the DM takes liberties to better suit a climactic moment or something similar to that, I don't want players who are going to throw a fit over it. The way I see it, if it doesn't affect you negatively nor nerfs the game to a point that the game is no longer fun then there is no reason to be bothered by it.  I myself am a laid back kind of person with a sense of humor. I am not shy and look forward to role-playing my character. I do work and have kids so I need a scheduled game. It will take effort to make sure I have a secure block of time to play is going to take effort but I am committed to doing so, but that means that I cannot handle anyone who is going to agree to play and then flake. Stuff happens and we all get that, but I need players who are going to put in the effort to be available for the session. To anyone who can do that I can promise that I will put in the effort to ensure a good time.  I am pacific time (PST) and my work schedule is a pretty consistent Mon-Fri, but I do the occasional OT on Saturdays, so time slots I would be looking for are probably either sometime starting anywhere as early as 4PM(PST) on Saturdays or some time on Sunday which is pretty much wide open.  Not much else to say but if anyone is interested or just has questions then I'll respond promptly and hopefully we can start a great adventuring group. All details can be fleshed out once the group is established. Depending on how long this takes -whether I have to repost or find other avenues to find players- I am ready to get things going as soon as this weekend.
Hello,  I'd be down to play, or even DM a one shot here or there. I currently DM Tomb of Annihilation for some friends of mine. I have quite a bit of experience with 5e and love playing with new people. My availability is a little weird as I'm a firefighter and only play at work. I have a pretty low call volume, (maybe once a month) but if I do get something I might disappear for 30 mins or so. Other then that, I'm laid back, easy going, 31 years old, and willing to help in any way I can

Question, would you want to DM or if others volunteered would you prefer being a player? If DM, do you have the modules?
I'd be down to DM a few one shot dungeons and have some modules, especially to get people interested. But I'd rather be a player especially if it turns into a campaign.

Still have openings for group. New and experienced players welcomed.
Mind If I can get in on this? My time is rather free most Sundays and Saturdays so I should be good. Do you have Discord?

What are you interested in doing, being a player or were you looking to DM. Doesn't effect whether you're included, would just like to know your preference.
I would be interested to be a player if you still have a spot! I'm not a very experienced DnD player, but I know the 5e rules and was in a few one shot sessions. Hit me up if there's still place in the group!
I would be down to play. I have been playing DnD for a while, but always with the same group, so I would not really say too experienced. I do however know quite a lot of the rules, especially with character creation. Would much prefer to be a player, but I could DM adventure paths or modules.
Just thought id throw my hat into the ring too, im looking for a group as well, as a player. Ive played 5e before so I know how to do it lol. I have like literally no schedule at all, only thing I do regularly is I have something on mondays from 1:30 to 3:30 but other then that im basically free like all the time as long as im awake of course, im in PST too. Would love to join, not in any groups right now and like totally having D&D withdrawals haha
I would love to play! Sunday and Saturday afternoons/evenings are good for me too. I've played some solo campaigns in my home, so I'd say I'm not too experienced, but excited to play with a group!
Hey, everyone. Thanks for your responses. Looks like we are getting a decent little group together here so I am going to be moving forward to set a time and get details to everyone, but I want to allow just a little more time to see if we can find someone with experience who wants to DM. I was hoping to have everything ready in time to get a session started this weekend, and that isn't entirely out of the question just yet, but at the very least we will have the group and schedule for sessions set by this weekend and start no later than next.  I'm excited to get things started so thanks again to everyone who has reached out and shown interest. Look forward to getting better acquainted with those of you that join us.
need one more? i got a few characters made i can use which ever the party needs most.
If there's still room, I'm also looking for a 5e group to participate in as a player. I've mainly used melee characters, but am willing to adapt to the team's needs. I'm available on Saturday and Sunday (EST).

Hi there! I'll be running a Storm King's Thunder campaign on Fridays or Saturdays; I have two game listings currently available. This  listing is Pay-to-Play at a monthly rate of $10/person, collected via PayPal. The first month is free and refunds are available for your most recent payment. All seats are currently available, allowing for group reservations, and this listing is heavily centred on player input. We can run something else if everyone is interested in a different game. Alternatively,  this  listing is Free to play; there are currently 12 applicants interested, so, unfortunately, I can't guarantee everyone a seat. Admittedly, I just started DMing last year but I am familiar with 5e mechanics and rulings. I currently run one casual 5e homebrew game with five friends on Sundays; we play whenever everyone is available. I'll start running the Free SKT campaign soon, probably within two weeks. I welcome new and experienced players alike and promise a thorough Session 0 outlining base and variant 5e rules.
This is for anyone who has interest in joining the newly forming D&D 5E group. Interest has been a little higher than expected so it is necessary to see who will make the best fit. The questions below are all very simple and are meant to find the most cohesive group we can. Some of the question mid-way through as details about the type of things you want in a campaign. Since the first campaign we are doing will be the Lost Mine of Phandelver, these will play more into a campaign I am building for later. Please answer all questions as honestly as possible to ensure the best fit. Remember this is as much to make sure you will have a good time as much as anything else. Don’t be intimidated what looks like a long list of questions; most of them are multiple choice and the answers make up most of the space taken. 1. When works best for you for sessions? Windows we are looking at are Saturdays After 5pm (PST) or anytime Sundays. 2. Would you prefer weekly or bi-monthly sessions? 3. Once a day and time is agreed upon, will you be able to commit to said schedule? 4. Please indicate if there are any types of people that you aren’t willing to game with: 5. My favorite ways to play is: To acquire, use, and optimize new spells/powers, abilities, and other resources to make me and the party successful. To think cleverly, strategically, or creatively to overcome obstacles or make obstacles easier to defeat. Me bash! To play the same kind of character I usually play in most campaigns. To have a character participate in a fun story and hopefully to be successful. To stay in character even when it might hurt me. To get and revel in the spot light. Hey, I’m just here for friends and snacks. So, if I laugh hard and make others laugh, that is a good session. 6. If you have one, give an example of an event you enjoyed in a previous session you’ve player: 7. Please give an example of a campaign events that you did not enjoy from a previous campaign and help me understand why you didn’t like them: 8. Give a summary of what kind of DM you prefer (i.e. laid back and focused on player enjoyment over all else, strict and focused on enforcing the rules over all else, somewhere in between): 9. If you can’t attend a session, please indicate what you like to have happen to your character: My character may be roleplayed by a player I trust. A GM I trust may roleplay my character. It’s okay if my character dies while I’m gone. My character may pop out of the action when I’m gone and back in when I return the next session. 10.   Please indicate which of the following responses best matches your expectation for missions: I’m okay with failing a tangential mission. I’m okay with failing a mission related to the overall campaign goals. I’m okay with failing a mission related to the overall campaign goals, but only if it isn’t too hard to fix the failure. I’m okay with failing an overall campaign mission thus far (e.g., prevent a gate from forming to an evil plane) as long as we get new related goals (e.g., fight what comes through the gate and then close the gate). I’m okay with failing a mission related to the overall campaign goals as long as we get new goals and those goals may be unrelated (e.g., survive the demon horde pouring through the gate; save/protect the McGuffin from the demon horde). I’m only okay with failing side missions that are tangentially or only loosely related to main goals. Beyond that, I like a GM to keep us moving closer to a successful completion of the over all goal. I’m okay with failing. Period. Even the whole campaign. Though I know the party won’t be perfect, I really need every mission to end with at least a modicum of success. I prefer the party to set its own goals and don’t want a given goal in the GM’s mind before we create characters or before we start a mission. 11.   I like roleplaying where: Everyone focuses on the group goals There are group goals, individual goals, and those goals may be different. I like individual goals to converge with group goals. 12.   When has it been okay or even fun for your character to die in a game? (Check all that apply.) Never. How could that even be fun? When the character can be resurrected and eventually catch up to other characters in power level. When it forwarded a plot overall or made a very dramatic enjoyable scene. When the GM thought we made serious mistakes and the dice dictating it. When I got an awesome death monologue. When I had something else to do at the table afterward. The acceptability of character death is inversely proportional to the amount of time it takes to create a new character. Character death is more acceptable the longer and more successful my character has been. Character death is less acceptable the longer and more successful my character has been. Character death appropriateness is based on my character. If I play a cautious, careful, combat avoid, and combat savvy character, I expect those traits to help the character live longer. If I play a reckless foolish character, I expect death to catch up to the character eventually. It is okay to me if other characters die for character/story reasons but not if it affects my character too much. 13.   When we start the campaign, I want my character to be able to: Influence a small group of people known to him or her Influence events in a small group Influence events on a local level (neighborhood or small town) Influence a large city Influence a state or region Influence a country Influence a world Influence a plane Influence the fabric of reality 14.   By the time we finish a campaign, I want my character to be able to: Influence a small group of people known to him or her Influence events in a small group Influence events on a local level (neighborhood or small town) Influence a large city Influence a state or region Influence a country Influence a world Influence a plane Influence the fabric of reality 15.   How fast do you like your character’s power level to develop? I like to see power development every session. I like to see power development every few sessions. I like to see power development a couple of times a year. Power development is not as important to me as character development. 16.   How realistic do you like character mortality to be? Realistic: A point blank shot to the head should be fatal almost every time even for PCs. Heroic: For most people in the world a point blank shot to the head would be fatal but not for my character. Realistic or Heroic as above but with faster healing to keep the game moving and my character in the story. Cinematic: A point blank shot should kill, but the bad guy flinched and grazed me instead. Then I knocked him out and grabbed the gun out of the air and turned it on him before he even hit the ground. Superhero: My skull flattens bullets. Godlike: “How will you shoot me in the head with that fish?”. . . .”Bwa?!” 17.   What kind of overarching campaign goals interest you: Halt a danger to a home town Fight a war of defense Be loyal to an organization (get orders, fulfill missions) Stop an evil organization/evil overlord Save the world/universe Stop the internal power grab within my organization/country Build up the power/wealth/status of my loyal patron See the world Explore different cultures Get the McGuffin Build a menagerie Avenge the wronged Protect the weak Build my power and the power of my friends 18.   How do you feel about dice: The dice rule the game Die rolls are suggestions I want a GM to ignore the dice when it favors me I want a GM to ignore the dice when the story would be furthered (even if that sometimes hurts my character) Do we really need dice? 19.   Desired length of campaign: 6 months 1 year 1.5 years 2 years An epic campaign of epic longness As long as we can keep it going and fun 20.   I like playing in a game where: Where the adventure starts with Scene A and leads to Scene D, but where, when, how and whether B and C come about is up to the players. Where the adventure starts with Scene A and leads to goal D, but the path between those points is up to the players. Where the adventure starts with Scene A, and from there the players are free to set, change and accomplish their own goals. 21.   How do you feel about GM improvisation: I like a GM to improvise so I can be free to decide what I want to do. I’m willing to accept some gaffes from the GM as sometimes happens when improvising. I like a well planned, well balanced adventure and am willing to accept some railroading so the GM can meet that need. I like a well balanced seamless but improvised adventure and get frustrated by GM mistakes or railroading. The next questions are asking about engagement and participation in a campaign. 22.   In previous campaigns, I have enjoyed (please check all that apply): Writing character background Writing character journals Writing session notes Finding/making/painting markers for my and other characters Helping others and the GM remember the rules Tracking NPC contacts Helping players/the GM in other ways. Describe: 23.   In this campaign, I would be willing to and would enjoy (please check all that apply; don’t worry though, I’m not asking for a commitment, and I’m not expecting you will do all of the ones you check or that you will do any of them all of the time): Writing character background Writing character journals Writing session notes Finding/making/painting markers for my and other characters Helping others and the GM remember the rules Tracking NPC contacts Helping players/the GM in other ways. Describe: Roleplaying encompasses a huge range of or lack of violence. Not everyone is comfortable with every style. I don’t want any players to be disturbed by the scenes/acts described by the GM or other players. So, the next few questions are an attempt to find out a little bit about what you might be comfortable with in game. 24.   Please let me know what kinds of dramatic events can escalate tension or enjoyment and motivate your character(s) to fight against: Descriptions of graphic violence/gore Violence against *innocents *women *children *animals *men Torture Dismemberment Insults Kidnapping Threats Other 25.   Please let me know what kinds of dramatic events you don’t feel have a place in a game that would be fun for you: Descriptions of graphic violence/gore Violence against *innocents *women *children *animals *men Torture Dismemberment Insults Kidnapping Threats Other 26.   Please let me know if there are any types of violence that would not be okay to happen to your character: Descriptions of graphic violence/gore Violence against *innocents *women *children *animals *men Torture Dismemberment Insults Kidnapping Threats Other 27.   Please let me know if there are types of violence that would not be okay to happen to your character’s loved ones or family: Descriptions of graphic violence/gore Violence against *innocents *women *children *animals *men Torture Dismemberment Insults Kidnapping Threats Other The next questions are about your experience GMing. Don’t worry if you don’t have any GMing experience, these questions are near the end because they are much less important. 28.  I might be interested in GMing this group if it is also a good fit for my style: Y/N 29.   I have GMed before? Y/N
i would love to find a group to play with i am best as a player though please let me know
Still waiting on responses for the questionnaire. Sooner we get them back the sooner we can get everyone in a discord group and schedule our first session. For the time being, recruitment for the group is reopened in the interest of keeping the ball rolling just in case those reached out to do not respond soon.  Excited to get this started so I hope to hear from everyone soon.
Updated 2: Looks like I will be the group DM, which is fine by me, but we still need 2 more for a full group. Could probably proceed as is but at least 1 more would likely be best. Please drop a line if interested and I will direct message our questionnaire. Upon completion, so long as you're a good fit (minimum requirement: not a psycho), I'll send a link to the group Discord.
