[LFP] Looking for 4-7 players to explore the Barrowmaze - Labyrinth Lord - Friday nights 8pm EST

Porky MacIntosh stumbled into Helix last week, muttering about skeletons and treasure chests. No one paid him any attention until he bought 3 rounds of drinks for everyone at The Brazen Strumpet. Helix has been awash in rumors ever since - some say Porky gave Karg Barrelgut a 4 gold piece deposit for broadsword. Gamdar let slip that Porky made a 2 gold piece donation to the Shrine of St. Ygg. Taycee told a trader from Bogtown that Porky got into one of the Barrowmounds and into the maze, finding dozens of gold pieces. A crush of new faces are coming into Helix now, all looking to get rich quick. Are you one of those? Long time DM looking to run a weekly Labyrinth Lord game using Greg Gillespie's awesome Barrowmaze Complete. Start Time: 8pm EST End Time: 11pm EST (I'm open to going for 1 or 2 more hours as long as the whole group agrees on a session by session basis) First Session: Friday, August 17th If you want in, let me know! If you have questions or comments, let me know!
In the interest of getting as much info as possible in as few posts as possible... If you are interested, let me know the following: How much RPG experience do you have? Do you primarily Play or GM? How much Labyrinth Lord / basic D&D experience do you have? What sort of character do you like to play? Does it bother you if a low level PC dies? How familiar are you with the Barrowmaze?

How much RPG experience do you have? Tons in video games and plenty in D&D. I'm in two other ongoing roll20 campaigns. Do you primarily Play or GM? Play How much Labyrinth Lord / basic D&D experience do you have? Never heard of Labyrinth Lord, but I dig the name and love trying out new modules What sort of character do you like to play? Usually some type of magic user, currently thinking maybe druid or sorcerer Does it bother you if a low level PC dies? Not especially, I start off with a fairly open backstory so if they die I've only lost a paragraph or two of creative time. How familiar are you with the Barrowmaze? Never heard of it, but I like puzzles. If it's a maze as it's name suggests then it's probably an architectural (and possibly magical) puzzle. Also as a question for you I'd be curious to know what level the game will start at? In addition your question about PC death makes me wonder if this is a Strahd-style campaign where death is a likely event? (which I'm totally fine with). And lastly if it's a labyrinth then I take it we'll spend a large amount of time in the structure, would I be right in assuming this is more of a combat-focused module than an adventuring, roaming, rping one?

Labyrinth Lord is the name of the system. It is a retroclone of Basic D&D, so this game isn't a 5th ed D&D game, it's a Labyrinth Lord game. It doesn't mean that we will be playing in a labyrinth, per se. Barrowmaze is an old school adventure that is what we would consider a mega-dungeon. The rules for labyrinth lord are free online - here is a link: http://goblinoidgames.com/index.php/downloads/ download and take a look! To answer your questions: 1) Game will start at level 1 2) Labyrinth Lord is relatively deadly compared to modern games (3e and later, including 5e), so death is to be expected, and possibly frequent, at levels below 4th. 3) While we will spend a great deal of time in the dungeon, there will be lots of opportunities to roleplay among the NPCs in the towns as well as with factions in the megadungeon itself. The first portion of the adventure includes a wilderness roaming and exploration if the players have their PCs go in that direction.
Well much as it does sound fun, I'm not really looking to play a retro system so I'll politely pass. Good luck with your campaign!
Hi - I'm Brendan and this sounds interesting to me so to answer your questions How much RPG experience do you have? I'm an old time player - started with AD&D 1st edition back in the late 70's (yes, i'm old). Currently running a D&D 5e game bi-weekly on Saturdays here on Roll20. Was recently in a D&D 5e Friday night game but had to drop as it was too big a time commitment. The sessions were going 9-12 hours and that was too much for me (watching the sun rise playing D&D brought back memories, but was messing up my Saturday's too much). What you propose 3-5 hours is perfect. Do you primarily Play or GM? Both. I have been GM'ng a game for the past 2 years. Have also played in a couple groups on roll20 over the past 3 years that lasted 6-8 months each. How much Labyrinth Lord / basic D&D experience do you have? None with LL, but looks to be like AD&D 1st ed, so will pick it up quick. Can download and read the rules by the time this game starts. What sort of character do you like to play? Group oriented rather than Loner. More "Good" than "Evil" but not stick-up-the-a** good (so not an old school Paladin). I do like spell casters: cleric or magic user. For old school, the multi class fighter/mage is a favorite of mine. Does it bother you if a low level PC dies? Not at all. It's part of the game. Stupid/rash/bold decisions = death. it's part of the fun. How familiar are you with the Barrowmaze? I have heard of it as a mega dungeon, but never actually seen it or played it. I do have to say i will not be available on the 24th (August) due to plans already set for that day that i cannot change. But after that, I should be good most Friday's. Let me know if there is any other info you need.
@Zach - Totally understand - good luck with your current games. @Brendan - sounds great! You're in! Completely fine to miss Aug 24th. I'm pretty flexible with people missing games - it is one of the benefits of Labyrinth Lord and Barrowmaze - a missing PC doesn't upset things too much. @turbonerd - too bad! If your schedule changes, let me know! Thanks for the bump.
Thanks - found the actual game posting - so also posted a quick response there.
Thanks Brendan - I sent you an official invite to the game.
Not too much interest? Looks like everyone wants to play 5e... How long is appropriate to leave a thread like this up?
