checking interest for a collaborative GM experience? we switch off game duties, and collaborate on game building outside of game day. is anyone interested? i'm willing to do 3.5, or 4e. and, if there is an overwhelming majority, i'll learn a new system, so long as my counterpart is willing to help me out sometimes. we'd do it weekday nights, preferably around 7:00 (GMT-7) onward? this is what i'm looking for: "So what are you looking for in co-gm?" :oh, in all honesty, it's not my favorite job at the "table" but, it seems that players are in a high surplus. so, i figured if two of us did it, we could split the job 50/50, and play the other half. i'm happy to do anything from pre-mades, to building it all from the ground up, depending on what you're looking for." oh, are sure you even want to gm? " i like to DM, just, not every time. you understand? and i think flipping every few sessions will keep things fresh, and dynamic, where as one person tends to stagnate, and fall back onto safe go-to's. i love telling a story, and i love participating both. the probles seems to be, there are too many of the latter, and too few of the former. so, if i can get two people working together, it's a more creative and satisfying job than one guy alone. and, we get to enjoy our work from both sides." hmm the problem with co-gming is not meta gaming and delivering a consistent story i agree. and, i think i can pull that off, if you can? or, not pull it off, as the case may be. my problem, is i like both, and in an ideal setting, i would get to play both sides. maybe installments from one session to the next, so that we're each surprised y the others next step in our story, like those improv games they used to do on who's line: do it one day, and then give the partner a week to make the next step. yeah make sure to deliver a consistent story well, depending on the setting, that might not even be nessesary. for example, the campaign is all inside one guys dreams, as they get more and more whacky. maybe, that would be interesting each session could be the next nights exploits, and thus they are all connected, but not nessesarily railroaded by eachother. that sounds interesting maybe you should jsut run that. or, different levels of a dungeon designed to drive the characters to ever increasing madness. you're right, and i want to. but i also want the surprise aspect of the story, which is totally lost, when i write the whole thing... you might not want a co-gm then you might want some well made radnom chance table. or someone to help you make a story thats not really what i'm looking for. i really do want a partnered experience, where i can both experience their creations, and have them experience mine. because if i have someone help me write it, then run it myself, i'm just giving second hand information. and with a table, those are each built into the system, and thus would each have an easy path to follow. rather, with someone else DMing with me, we can challenge eachother, and the players equally, and our reactive story would be that much more in depth as we have to build on each others last session.
