I'll put it bluntly. When I was introduced to D&D, the guy who ran the campaign took a lot of cues from Gygax himself. His campaigns were brutal. Levels came slow, monsters were smart, players were weak, treasure was plentiful, death was around every corner, and I loved every second of it. I've made and joined other groups, but nothing I've gotten into has managed to match that brutal, Gygaxian experience I had at the start of my D&D career. Now I'm hoping I can assemble a group of like-minded people who like to roll their characters 3d6 in order. Any edition is fine, as long as it's not fourth. I find you can create a Gygaxian campaign in any edition (particularly first, second or fifth) if you know what you're doing.
