Hello, my name is Captain Vac, and I will be hosting a campaign known as the Legacy of the Archs. I am looking for 3 to 4 players to take part in this epic quest. I am a DM that mixes together the playstyles of 'railroading' and 'sandboxing', so I will have an overarching story to follow, but as players, you are very welcome to ignore that and travel the map as you please, but I do encourage at least a roleplay reason as to do so. Speaking of which, this campaign will be a mix of combat-oriented gameplay alongside social interactions and possibly slower, more tense sessions. It all depends on the players' actions and the setting they are in, as every campaign will play out differently depending on those playing it. The setting is thus: "Ariana, a forgotten land, far off from the shores of Faerun (the lands where most 5e campaigns take place). A land of no proper civilization, a land filled with many nomadic tribes, some greater than others. Most never stay in the same place for long, constantly moving, unless, they come to great power and size, enough to claim a large amount of territory as their own, and keep it. Your tribe is but only a small one. A fell blight had come over your once proud home and now you all head southward to find a new resting place. However, unknown to all is that newcomers have now landed on the far shores of Ariana. Unknown in their plan or purpose, it is unclear where they will stand among the wildmen of your land. Only time will tell." As it says, you are part of a small nomadic tribe that lives in a land with no knowledge of government or politics, as those concepts are in other lands unknown to you. There is no official currency system, as most transactions between tribes or individuals are simple trades of resources or precious items, bartering if you will. As such, your characters will start with no gold. That's not to say gold is impossible to find in the world, but you won't start with it in your pocket, as gold is regarded as a precious metal and you must be a baller if you're just carrying that stuff around in your pocket. As for character creation, here are the rules: Of course, you will start with basic gear that comes with your class (excluding gold). If you have any extra items or weapons among this, you must describe why you have them, what they can do (if they do anything different than a normal object), and how it is significant to you. Even after all this, it must be approved by me and we can talk about it to see what we can do. You can play as any class EXCLUDING Paladins and Clerics, as they are classes more tied to organizations that don't exist in your lands. You may multiclass if you feel you feel comfortable doing so. You may play any races you know of from the Core and Volo games. The only races that will be unavailable from these lists will be: Aarakocra, Aasimar, Triton, or Yuan-Ti Pureblood. You will start at level 2. You must also give me the names, races, and personalities of no more than two family members that are also part of your tribe. You can have only one if you wish. These family members can range from spouse, grandparent, child, aunt, whatever you can think of. Finally, if you wish to have a long, drawn-out backstory to your character that has the possibility of tying into a personal quest down the line, please, go as descriptive as you wish. But, if that's not your thing, no worries! You only need a backstory as long as you wish to have. The only thing I would like to be known from all characters is how you became part of the tribe, ranging from being born into it to other situations. I encourage roleplay and interactions between characters and NPCs. Feel free to speak as you will if you're curious about something in the world. I am a 'Rule-of-Cool' DM, so while I will keep to a sense of realism in combat or otherwise, I don't mind letting characters have reasonable, but cool moments, even if the rules would say otherwise. I don't mind how serious or how hilarious characters can be, in fact, I love comedic moments sprinkled among the serious story. I'm even ok with dumb characters, AS LONG as they don't intentionally ruin the game for the other players. Please, be respectful, but other than that, do as you wish. One more thing that may decide whether this is the campaign for you. Whenever a character is revived from zero hitpoints, they must role a die. I will then consult a chart I have of injuries that your character got from the strike that took you down. These can range from injuries with no effects at best, temporary or treatable effects in the middle, and more permanent effects at worst. This will make the campaign more dynamic and tense with each encounter, especially if you encounter some of the stronger enemies hidden away in the world. It'll also make for some interesting moments in the story, possibly creating grudges against certain characters and having a need for revenge. Your submissions will simply be your characters that you put in as a response for this thread. Among the submissions, I will pick 3 to 4 players to participate. If you do not get picked, don't get discouraged. It is not necessarily you made a bad character, but simply I tried to pick out characters that could help one another and were a mix of different classes (ex. I don't want a party made up of nothing but barbarians). If you weren't picked and were hoping to get involved, please PM me. This way I'll have your name archived and can have you at the front of the line when I do this campaign again. Games will be hosted on Thursdays every week at 7:00 p.m. Central time. I hope to see you all in Ariana. God bless.
