"I've seen your like many times before. Flitting from job to job, taking whatever postings you find. Bad company. Poor pay. On the whole -- unfulfilling work of the worst variety. But that isn't what you came here for. That isn't what you crave. Nay, you believed your destiny was greater than this. That your calling was higher. Well then. Check your equipment. Make ready your spells, your gear, your disarming words -- whatever passes for a 'weapon' in your eyes, I expect you to have it close at hand and know how to use it. And a good sense of tactical acumen will likewise serve you well here. Now if I still have your attention, let's see if you're any better than the regular lot of lackwits who walk in and out of here day in and day out: Are you in or not?" Greetings. This is an LFG posting for an ongoing homebrew Pathfinder campaign. I seek a total of four players; no more and no less -- which means I am presently seeking two additional players to fill empty slots. The campaign runs weekly on Saturday evenings EDT, beginning at 6:00 PM EDT and running quite late. Session length varies from around seven hours to eleven hours total based on when the group reaches a good stopping point and how rested everyone is before a particular session, but those who cannot commit to seven hour sessions at minimum weekly should not apply. Communication is handled on voice over Discord. I am seeking mature players with a passion for roleplay. The kind of players who could feel greatly engaged in many sessions of RP on end, but would still be mechanically savvy if they were to get into a challenging combat encounter. The kind of players truly wishing to dig into their setting, into their character and their character's backstory and relationships, into the world and the lore. I am not necessarily seeking experienced players. As long as someone is comfortable with RP and has a genuine willingness to learn and master the system, they are welcome to apply. I am seeking committed players, who are comfortable entering a campaign midway through and willing to invest themselves in understanding the world setting, the lore, and the ongoing situation in the campaign. There will be a disparity of knowledge coming in midway through in contrast to the other players, and I understand that very well, which is why I want players who prefer campaigns with deep settings. I do not have a set of pamphlets or files to hand out and dig through for hours on end to learn about the world -- I don't believe that's an engaging way of conveying information, and I will go out of my way to personally answer the questions of any player I accept at my table, regardless of how many and varied they are. However much commitment a player is willing to make to engaging themselves in the setting and fleshing out their character, I will strive to exceed. What I offer as a GM is knowledge, experience, and my own passion and dedication to the campaign. The integrity of the world is of immense importance to me, and bringing it alive for my players is something I take quite seriously. While the campaigns I GM are very open, that is not to say that there is not an ongoing story or series of events, but it is ultimately up to the players to determine when, why, and how they will engage with the things taking place. My approach is flexible, and there are very few rails to be found here. Strongly-motivated characters with their own goals are quite welcome. Following is an overview of the types of people who will (and will not) have a good time in a campaign I GM: Who this campaign is for: Passionate players. Those who wish to heavily invest themselves in their character, in the campaign, in the world and setting, I will return that passion in kind in the telling of the story. I care a great deal about emotionally investing myself in the campaign, and hope that those at my table might also experience the heights of elation and the depths of despair; sorrow, love, anger, tranquility, and every feeling one might experience, each appropriate to the situation. People who are not only comfortable but actually hope to find an experience strong enough to move them to tears (whether of happiness or grief) are very welcome here. Players with a broad set of interests within Pathfinder itself. Roleplay and exploration do tend to receive the lion's share of overall campaign time in campaigns I GM, but they are hardly the only aspects present. While combat is likely to comprise a comparatively small length of time at the table, I still care a great deal about the mechanical aspects of the system, and creating encounters that are both challenging and engaging is important to me. But likewise, enjoying RP within the party, with NPCs, exploration, and investigation are all important as well. Everything doesn't need to be something you enjoy deeply, but the wider the variety of things you do enjoy, the more fun you are likely to have in a campaign I GM. Who this campaign is not for: People who "already have a character they want to play" or who wish to try and pitch a character concept with their application. I completely understand having a few mechanical ideas or even a general build concept at the forefront of one's mind for use in a coming character, but I have no interest in players who have already made ironclad decisions about what they are going to do. I believe that characters should be made with the world and specific campaign in mind, and that making good characters can often take a great deal of time and back-and-forth work with the GM to establish necessary elements of the setting for the character to fit. People who wish to move from one combat encounter to the next as quickly as possible. People who care a great deal about the application of meta concepts such as wealth by level -- if being excessively above or below expected wealth by level leaves you feeling uncomfortable and untrusting of the GM, this is not the place for you. I prefer to deal with situations that arise organically, and that means that the wealth you acquire will not always fit a neat curve, especially in the event of the unexpected -- a rather common scenario. As a generalization of the above point, people who do not trust their GM. I do not claim to be perfect, and I have no issues with people bringing up mechanical errors or general situations in the campaign at present after sessions for discussion. I do, however, have a strong mastery of Pathfinder as a system, and invest a great deal of effort into trying to create a memorable story and a vibrant, living world for my players. I am here to try to provide an amazing experience for everyone. I can but trust my players to be serious when the moment is serious, to laugh and joke when the time is appropriate, and to each do their best to truly play out their character no matter the situation. I ask that my players attempt to do the same in return. Once I have found two additional applicants with whom I am satisfied, the timeline will advance as follows: --I will schedule a one-shot that is unrelated to the campaign to serve as an opportunity for everyone to get some experience playing with each other, get a feel for how they interact with each other out of character, and make sure there is a strong feeling as a group. --Assuming all goes well with the one-shot, I will then schedule a shorter session to establish major setting points that led into the campaign as well as a summary of major events that have transpired since its start for the two new players (in many ways, a mid-campaign Session 0). There will be an opportunity for everyone to discuss mechanical or setting questions, especially relating to the new characters coming into the campaign. --Character creation will continue over the next two to three weeks. During this time, I will run solo sessions for each character in the campaign that will encompass a few major events in their lives in order to establish their relationships to NPCs and their place in the world at the point of joining the party. --Once character creation is finished, we will resume the campaign with full sessions at the earliest possible time! Given the timeline, this is not a campaign for anyone expecting an immediate start. I believe that for something that will last two to three years, taking several weeks to find players of high quality and to set things up properly is well worth the investment. Now, if you're still with me and interested in joining, the questions for the application are below. Please send applications via PM on Roll20. If you have questions, please feel free to ask in this topic or by PM!
