World History: In an age long past the land of Nimriandre was in the midst of a golden age. Humanoid empires spanned the continent, dotting the lands with sprawling metropolises and arcane enclaves. The era of peace and prosperity seemed to be endless; then something happened. The nature of the event has been lost to history, referred to only as The Cataclysm. Whatever happened, it precipitated the invasion of seemingly unstoppable forces from the west. The great humanoid empires fell, cultures and societies collapsed as the few survivors of the event escaped to the east. For reasons unknown the forces from the west didn’t follow and far to the east the humanoids were able to find shelter and rebuild their society. Kingdoms formed and grew to fill all of the safe land; then they began to push west, slowly reclaiming the land from the weaker monsters as they went. Each kingdom claimed the land they could secure pushing into the wilds by establishing new frontier cities to control the new claim. Conflicts arose as cities tried to claim the same territory and as kingdoms grew too large to hold themselves together and fractured into smaller kingdoms. CHARACTER HISTORY: In the Kingdom of Amalur, King Aegeoth’s second son Prince Theodric has been tasked with pushing into the wilds to expand the borders of the kingdom. Months ago the call to action was cried throughout the kingdom and those willing to take the risk to settle in a new land answered. You are one of those people. As the game starts the caravan of settlers will have just departed the current most western town in the kingdom headed for a site on a river near the foot of a mountain chain. OOC INFORMATION: The prince NPC will not be a quest giver or a boss, he’ll just be there to hand wave away the tediousness of city building. The town will be very generic without player input, but how much attention is spent on it will be determined by the party. If you collectively don’t want to touch it, that’s cool; if you want to collectively decide where each building is and what kind of npcs are recruited at every moment until the city reflects your ideals exactly, that’s cool too. 5th Level, 11000 gp, expect limited access to shopping for a while. 32 point buy (DMG 169) Max HP Lvl 1, average HP lvl 2-5 No monstrous races, the line of what is too monstrous is arbitrary, core races are fine anything else requires approval. Item crafting uses no xp but costs 75% gold instead of 50%. Artificers can use normal rules until their xp pool is depleted. Level ups will be story based Bonus exp will come in the form of tokens for doing things like achieving the best outcome or securing resources for the town and such. Tokens are non-transferrable and 10 can be traded for a level between any sessions.
