I've been in other campaigns before but they all ended abruptly, as such I've never been in any 1 campaign longer than 6 months. I prefer a more medieval or steampunk-ish world, I think sci fi worlds like start wars and such are cool and all. But something just puts me off. Medieval however I absolutely adore and steampunk is one of my favorite worlds to make characters for. I tend to stick to agility based characters with wild personalities. Either that or some form of craftsman such as blacksmithing or engineering. Speaking of creative characters, I am open to homebrew in fact I quite enjoy coming up with neat ideas. One of my personal favorites was a spell musket. A modified musket with an arcane focus as an ammo chamber. Allowing the wielder to fire compressed spells off with greater precision and range, at the cost of reduced raw power. One of my personal favorite PCs: Fenryr - The human ranger, a bastard child left to die in the streets. He was taken in by the local barracks and taught how to wield bow and arrow to deadly precision. Later he would come to form a sibling like bond with another resident of the shabby establishment. Lyra, another abandoned orphan whom until Fenryr approached her, had never spoken with anyone. One night tragedy struck and his comrades along with his sister were struck down. In desperation Fenryr sought out help, and he found it or rather it found him. He was promised a way to save his sister, little did he know this would come at the cost of his sanity. The next morning his sister was gone and as he stared into the mirror, the eyes that stared back at him were not his own, but Lyra's.  ~ Hi nice to meet you. Listen, could you do me a small favor? Could you go and die so I don't have to look at you anymore? Don't take it personally, I just hate you in every way imaginable.
