Hello Roll20, I have been playing DND pretty steadily on Roll20
and a home game for the past year. I have been wanting to DM for awhile after watching all of Critical Role. I have continued to feel like playing this game has a player is not enough for me. I have always enjoyed world building and RPG's. I have been putting together an
idea for the world I want to run as a dm with DND. It is Exile 3 Ruined
World. More currently known as Avernum. Exile 3 was the game I loved
growing up and did not even realize how much DND was the game that I
wanted to play after I could not find any other game like Exile. I have
been toiling away at recreating all the maps and making new ones using
the same tilesets from the classic version of the game. I am getting
close to having enough comfortably premade to get a group started and
will continue to build the world and change it as the adventure unfolds.
I am planning on using this and the start of the storyline as the
beginning of this DND adventure. General Information about Exile 3: You
are a group of adventures tasked with venturing out into the surface
world after having been part of a group known as exiles who were
banished by the Empire into a subterranean world. Being filled with all
kinds of various backgrounds Exiles eventually started working together
to build their own civilization. Ultimately though they wanted to return
to the surface and get back at the Empire who banished them. They have
set up a homebase in the lesser populated area of Valorim south of the
larger populated areas of the Empire. Here is where the story begins. Character Backstories: This
world is primarily populated by humans. However there are still small
pockets of elves and dwarves, as well as Nephilim (Tabaxi) and
Slithrekai (Lizardfolk). Your character should follow somewhat within
these guidelines with either growing up undergroud in Avernum (Exile) or
having a reason they were banished from the Empire to Exile. I
would like to start getting some feedback and discuss my plans for this
campaign with anyone who is interested. I have created numerous
documents with a baseline to start with but am fully flexible to tailor
the specific adventure to the players. The current plan is for
this to be a fairly combat heavy game (due to the style of gameplay in
the original game) however roleplaying will be strongly encouraged and
rewarded. Also the entire world will be created (if all goes to plan)
using the tilesets from the original game. So theatre of mind will be limited unless desired
where maps will be used only as needed or for battles. There will be an
over 500x500 overworld map with over 100 planned cities/dungeons
created. It will be up to you to determine where you go. Each area would
have predetermined events and difficulties with a primarily storyline
to be unfolded, which I fully expect to change soon after starting. Also
if desired there will be an option for every battle for the players to
choose the difficulty of each encounter from Normal, Hard, Torment.
Choosing the higher difficulties will generate harder units but greater
rewards. Game will be ran over discord using Roll20, exact night is TBD but see possible times in the title. I
have other ideas but I wanted to start hashing out details and not just
doing it on my own decisions but tailoring to those who would be
interested in this concept. Also I wanted feedback on the possibilities
of how this will work out or whether anyone else has run an essentially
remake of a video game into Roll 20 just using DND mechanics. Application Info: Player Name: Player Age: Character Name: Character Class: Character Backstory: Have you played Exile/Avernum before? Thanks for your consideration, ~Paul
