text tool issues

When I try and use the text tool I click on somewhere on the map.  But, unless I  hold down  the mouse button  and type simultaneously  the text box instantly disappears.  I haven't used the text tool all that often in the past, but that doesn't seem right, does it?  That seems quite difficult to use since you have to start typing with one hand while holding the mouse.   I am using Google Chrome, fully updated, and have cleared my cache.  I also disabled the adblocker I had, just in case that was interfering.  I don't really have any other extensions installed:  Logitech Smooth Scrolling, Google Docs Offline, and Docs and that's it.   Thanks for your help.  An awkward text tool is going to make Fate really hard to run.

You may want to turn off all extensions and/or try in an incognito window. Also, do you still see the text tool palette with the font face, font size, and font color?

Thanks for the suggestion and the quick reply.  Unfortunately, no luck in either incognito or with all my extensions disabled.  I thought the mouse extension might be doing something with it -- although I've had that installed for ages and never noticed any difficulty.  Using Microsoft Edge, I've found that I had decent luck either double-left clicking or right-clicking.  In Chrome things just seem to be kind of weird at the moment.
