Absolute Beginner

Hey everyone, I am a complete newbie to this site. I write in the hope of help. I am a 30-something who is looking to get into D&D online and my extensive research suggested this site might be worth looking into as it has an established community I might reach out to! I have yet to experience the delight of playing IRL although I will be starting with a group of friends in a few weeks. I have been an avid listener of more than a few actual play podcasts and I have a few ideas for characters and such. I'm really just looking for any advice or tips on how to get started and what I need to do as a conscientious player in order to get to a newbie level tolerable enough that some good folks might let me join them for a game! Any advice is warmly welcome! Thanks in advance! EDIT: I should have stated initially - I am GMT with a very  Scottish accent. 

We are in the exact same boat. I have been looking into the Pathfinder game, watching videos and podcast to get an idea of what its like. It looks fun. If you find a group that is willing to help new players get started let me know. So far it seems no one here wants new players to learn is my first impression. Good Luck

Welcome Ella! This is a great site for D&D. I am only hosting World of Darkness games right now, but D&D was on my list in the future. I'm always happy to have you if you're interested in learning the WoD system, which is really easy. Otherwise, what I can recommend is just searching for games that accept new players. It can be a challenge but eventually you'll find one. Just be persistent, patient, and be you! If you're interested in trying WoD, I'd be happy to have a scottish lass on board. If not, I really hope you find what you're looking :) @Hunter, I extend the offer to you as well. I am always happy to have new people!

@Jammy Yes I would be interested in WoD, and other games. Its been years since I played Vampire The Masquerade, lost interest when they decided to come out with Requiem. I just purchased the V5e so and reading up on the rule changes. If you're playing the older editions I will have to brush up on those as well.  The Last character I played was a Thin-blood Caitiff that was blood hunted in one city. Then made it to another city where she declared her self a Prince and had a homeless friend named Bob and was seriously breaking the Masquerade which caught the attention of the real Prince. She had insight which was the only thing that saved her when she was able to recall events of the Prince's Past and he found a use for her. She was then kidnapped by two Malks who tortured and framed her and brought her to the Prince. In which she lied saying she had a vision of the Prince's final death at the hands of her kidnappers in which she was able to turn the tables on them. It was that moment she learned to play the "Game" with the creatures of the night using her gift to slowly eliminate the elders and begin her rise to the top.  Anyways I am down let me know what your playing and when. I am available in the evenings between 7 pm and 11 pm Central time any day of the week and all day on Sunday and Mondays.
