General I love horror movies. My main interest tends to lean towards the classics like those of Hammer Films, but anything with practical effects is golden in my book. I played Ten Candles at a friend's house a few weeks ago an immediately fell in love with it. We started out making jokes, not taking the game too seriously, but six hours we were all so invested in the narrative we were like different people. After becoming more active on Roll20 in the last week I thought this was the perfect place to do something like that, albeit altered to suit the online factor. What I Propose The format I am working with is similar to that of Dread or Ten Candles . These aren't meant to be drawn out campaigns, but short stories that are over after a session or two. The bulk of the Role-Play will be done through Discord , purely text based , with Roll20 housing information and dice rolls. Setting and Characters will be decided in the week prior to the start of a session. It won't be anything too in-depth. These sort of games are meant to be streamlined for ease of play. Collaborative Storytelling The sort of game I want to run is one where everyone contributes. You aren't sitting there letting the GM unfold the story, you are actively participating in weaving parts of it. That will be one of the main aspects taken from Ten Candles . Each player will have a turn to create the story as we play. Introducing new obstacles, challenges, or assistance, as we delve ever deeper. First Session Idea I'm fairly open to just about anything. I do think that for the first session something fairly non-restrictive should be chosen so people can get into the hang of it. Something like the tried and true Cabin in the Woods setting would be pretty easy to do, or a camping trip gone wrong. Things that could introduce a horror element from a wide range of sources. There is nothing worse than someone figuring out what is going on in the first five minutes of play! So let me know what you think. I've already got most of the groundwork done. I could have everything finished and ready in a few days, giving people plenty of time to create their characters and help decide a setting before we start.
