Hello all forum-goers, Vesp here. I've definitely had ups and downs these past 2 years, lots of mistakes on my part that I've learned from, and support in letting others have fun and develop themselves. I learned a lot about DMing for around a year too, but still consider myself a novice at the role. I don't care too much about experience but I know some do, so I'm just stating it here. Same with age, which I'm in my late 20s. I mainly play exotic characters with complex backgrounds but I'd like to try something different here. In some ways its about being casual from the usual extreme investment I normally have in my characters, but that could still happen if the world is engaging enough. I vastly prefer RP and story based worlds over intentionally deadly challenges and mega dungeons. That's not that I don't like the latter ones, rather its not my focus. Its nice to see legit deadly threats to keep players from always being risky over rational, but I'd rather it not be omnipresent as if its players vs DM. If you're the type of DM that loves getting into in-depth details and backstories, I can definitely provide that, but I have a habit of getting into novel-length descriptions so I'll refrain from forcing you to read that much. Not to mention, I usually like to craft my backstory around the setting of the game, which is why my character below is fairly setting-neutral as things go. I don't mind horror, low-magic (like Middle-earth), high magic (Final Fantasy/WoW), swashbuckler, political intrigue, or whatever else. That said I would prefer, though not require, that the group be fairly serious. Its not that I hate comedy and lightheartedness, which I have done in abundance with no problems, so much as that I have been yearning to see a serious group in action, who takes their characters and motivations seriously, with deep backstories and further plots changing them as the campaign goes on. Those who don't always optimize builds and actions around combat gameplay, I would prefer to be with. Not that I don't like good builds and teamwork, but I have occasionally not followed the path the party wants of me if I believe my character would feel it strongly enough. I don't have them be a selfish loner who always rejects the party, but I also won't have them be an obedient slave that goes out-of-character both rationally and morally, for the sake of party decisions. For example, should the party murder innocents for no good reason, she wouldn't let that slide, either not helping them or actively reporting and capturing them. Meta reasons for keeping the party together can only be stretched so far. Also due to many bad experiences I'd rather not roll. If I could just go with the Standard Array (15 14 13 12 10 8) or 27 point buy, that would great. Anyway I'm looking to try a character of mine I've been developing for quite a while. My character is Averun Timberwood(name can be changed if culturally needed), an intentionally simple character who must survive by wits alone. In RP, she'd be the normal person in a party of exotic people with incredible abilities. She'd likely not be a party face, but wouldn't be a loner either. In gameplay she'd be a Standard Human Champion Fighter focused on archery, with a background as a soldier scout in her village militia. She eventually decided to travel as an adventurer on a long-term quest to find a personal magic item named Thiori's Hide (in gameplay simply a +3 Studded Leather), gathering gold, equipment, experience, and allies along the way. If you have any more questions just reply here or PM in private. Then I'll give my discord ID to those who'd like to talk and accept me.
